Slightly O/T but I'm sure that I saw that "The Avengers" was going to be re-run on terrestrial tv as well!

the avengers are scheduled on ...... BBC FOUR ?
Thursday November, 10 7.00-7.50 PM

and there is a programme called "the avengers revisited" also on BBC FOUR, scheduled from 8.30-9.00 pm, also on November 10.

ITV1 is showing "the avengers - must see tv" on November 10 from 10.00-10.30 pm. This seems to be a celebrations show by Joan Collins.

November 10 seems to be an "avengers" day.
all schedules courtesy of Radio Times.

Lest we forget, Ed Bishop was a highly accomplished serious actor, who "settled down" in Britain, then was often in Brit made "commercial" tv stuff ......

See: www.fanderson.org.uk/bios/edbishop.html .

(this link article was written before he passed away).

I was luck enough to see him on stage, once only (in Death of a Salesman).

REf "There will be several hundred thousand smirking middle aged men. You know there will. :D"

From what I can remember of the series there was plenty of interest for "smirking middle aged men" as well as for "smirking older men":) .

UFO and The Avengers will bring me back to watching TV again.

Commander Straker was UFO, which was I believe the 1st series Gerry Anderson created using actors, though stand to be corrected.

And I've just noticed that it's on at 7pm tonight (Saturday) on ITV4 (Sky ch120).

This one was my favourite out of all the series that Gerry Anderson created.

Moonbase Alpha (I think, or was that Space 1999), the submarine, the girls with their purple hair and short mini skirts, and of course the cars - oh yes and the aliens with the green stuff in their helmets ;)

Ah them were the days :)

Damn, RolfW, can you move this thread into the UFO is back thread - I'm not paying attention again !!! :-bash

Yes, RCP, UFO was (and is!) one of my fave Gerry Anderson series. It was a bit more adult than thunderbirds, with Cmdr Straker having marital problems, etc. Also, the way the "aliens" were shown is good and clever, we're given just enough hints about what they're doing to cause unease, but never shown anything directly (it's usually a mistake to "show the monster", unless it's a really good one, eg daleks!).

In comparison, I find Space 1999 rather diappointing! A very misguided attempt to "compete" with Star Trek (which wasn't about "special effects", but the "characters", something Space 1999 didn't have!).

(Having said that, how about Gabrielle Drake? Corr .... especially if you like purple hair! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gabrielle_Drake ).

(interestingly, v famoous actor/playwright Steve Berkoff also had a minor UFO role, as an interceptor pilot: http://www.iainfisher.com/berkoff.html Also - "more officially" - www.stevenberkoff.com).

no more UFO on ITV4 ...... did we get all the episodes ? I'm under the impression we didn't ! I remember an episode where the aliens used a device to generate earthquakes, didn't see that one !

Not having been in on a lot of Saturday evenings, I cant say Ive watched all of them, but seeing as it started early November, thats 24 weeks , give or take a couple of days.

There were 26 episodes in total in two series, so its possible they have missed a couple.
