Very interesting site AS.

As a boy in the '50s I remember visiting the Science Museum's amateur radio installation, and they were conducting moon bounce experiments while I was there (on 2 metres I believe).

The passage of time may have clouded my memory, but I think they had special dispensation to allow members of the public to say a quick 'hello' to the Moon and listen for the echo 2 1/2 seconds later (I think I had a go).

A little less analogue, and a lot more crap.

Europestar at 45 East could link the UK to Australia (just), but with cable all over the world now, the satellite option is just not economically feasible

Eutel W5 at 70E has been used to bounce Australian F1 feeds to Europe in just one hop.

How many years do you believe it will take when using satellites was something of the past and fibre-optics have taken over completely for broadcasters?

I remember the 2 meter ARRL moonbounce experiments I was call WA9HSO back then and was running about 350 watts on two and six doing moonbounce and thats when I had a few strange UFO type encounters.

I've always thought the repeater traffic over here on 2 was mostly alien babble
especially SL.

2 metre repeaters. I haven't listened to them for years.

May have to blow the dust off my Icom 02E to check if MP still exists. :D

Didin't radio hams used to do quite a bit of "meteor bounce" DXing? Do they still?

Some radio links used be via "tropospheric scatter", where you'd pump megawatts into the troposphere, and get a few microwatts back out at the other end!

And here's the 1st ever telecom sat, just a "big mirror in space ......."
