Hi - we recently moved and I set up my girlfriend's Polsat dish & LNB to point to the correct Polsat sats at 13E and reception strength & quality is good.
However the Evobox keeps turning off and back on (standby, not a full shutdown/restart). This is annoying if watching polsat channels - it just turns off (TV stays on).
If you are watching another input on the TV and the Evobox is off (standby), it turns on and the TV auto selects the input via HDMI control.

Temporarily I have disabled HDMI control between the TV (Sony Bravia) to stop it switching to it if not watching it and it comes on, but it is frustrating when trying to watch Polsat and it turns off.

The frequency varies - sometimes if does this alternating every 3 minutes, sometimes 5-10-15 minutes apart, or sometimes an hour.

It did not do this before moving, I have tried different power sockets for the box (and TV), I don't think there is anything interfering with the remote or sending a power off/on signal. The remote has quite a short range, so I'd be surprised if it was next door's remote interfering.

Does anybody have any ideas what could cause this? Thanks

A little less analogue, and a lot more crap.

Test by disconnecting the outdoor equipment and see if the receiver does same over a period of a few hours.

Is all the equipment the same as per the previous location ?

If this is a new install, did you do the coax run your self, was it there when you moved in, or did someone do the for for you? I would check for any metal flakes in the "F" connectors at the LNB or switch (if used), this could cause a restive short, causing the internal LNB power supply to overheat and shut down to prevent any internal damage.

Also a staple into the coax or to sharp a bend or kink in the coax can cause all sorts of problems.

I'm inclined to agree that the short-circuit protection for the LNB socket outwards is being triggered.

Thanks for the prompts..
Existing dish, box, lnb and cable (removed from previous residence). I used new ends at the receiver end and I'm sure these are good, I tried to make them as clean as possible to avoid any shorting. These ends are the only new part in the previous working installation. Ironically the previous ends were very loose and the wrong size for the cable but worked fine!

The cable did have a slight kink in it from the previous installation but as it has good signal strength and quality I ruled it out. I did ohm out the centre wire and shielding end to end with good continuity on both feeds but didn't check for shorting - I'll give that a check.

I didn't realise the power status of the box could be affected by the lnb/receiver side

Thanks everyone, will report back..

No switch, I ran the cable, direct from receiver to LNB. There is a link from the previous install which maybe the issue.. I'll cut it out and rejoin it

In the external PSU or in the box?

Depends where the power supply circuitry is - I have no knowledge of these boxes. But capacitor failure in the psu can cause all sorts of odd effects.

One way to tell is to disconnect both ends (LNB side and receiver side) and use a DVM to check for shorts, anything under 1000 ohms could be a problem. (checking from outside of connector to center conductor)

It should under a good install read in the meg ohms.
