Just when i thought I knew what to buy, there's mention of this "Mutant 51" box and the associated configuration. I was all set to just buy a 1m solid dish, the Black Ultra Single LNB and the "cheaper" Edison Primo box. Are you saying that I'd be better off buying the same 1m dish, LNB, but the Mutant 51 box?
I did read the link from Mike1 from start to finish, but I don't understand the terminology of TP/Multistream etc, so wasn't sure of the advantages? Ideally I'm just after the free Ukraine stations (1+1 etc) and as hassle free as possible in terms of updating configs/boxes etc?
The Edision box is essentially plug and play. Connect it to the dish pointing at 4.8°E and scan the transponders on the satellite. No additional configuration is needed. I'm not familiar with the Mutant box myself, but the Edision and Octagon receivers require no additional configuration for the channels.
If you just want to be able to watch the Ukrainian channels without any hassle then that would definitely be my suggestion. I have an Edision Primo and it's a neat, simple little box. The Octagon is pretty much identical in terms of features and user interface from what I understand!
TP = transponder. That's basically a frequency carrying a group of channels.
Multistream is just a way of sending the digital TV data over a satellite transponder in a format that's designed to feed professional equipment, usually at terrestrial transmitters - to provide the digital transmitters with the programme feed. It's a professional format that until recently most domestic receivers couldn't tune in. These cheap Edision and Octagon tuners all tune it in fine though which is one of the reasons they've become so popular!
I would say you'll be fine with an 80cm dish, but a 1m one will give you an even stronger signal which isn't a negative!
