My Satellite Setup
Dreambox DM800HD se. Quad core AMD Phenom PC
My Location
Hastings
I have a genuine Dreambox 800HD se running the latest Newnigma2 image connected to a new motorised dish.

I have a new satellites.xml file with only the 4 satellites I want (including Thor at just about due south).

No matter what I do I can't get any of my satellites. I set the dish to Thor and we got a perfect signal but when I tried to tune in, the Dreambox moved the dish about 20 degrees East so it wouldn't tune.

It's the same with all my satellites - the dish moves fine but never at them.

I have tried using the Positioner Setup to move the dish but no luck at all and the Dreambox always seems to go back to this default setting.

What am I doing wrong? This is all new to me but I've spent hours trying every different setting and no luck.

It makes no difference if Usals is on or off.

Any help appreciated.

Well if the motor is set correctly it means the latitude and longitude you entered in your tuner config is wrong.

Have you tried updating your satellites.xml file?

Just unzip the file and then ftp it to Var/tuxbox :D

That should give you all your satellites back.

I would then tell the receiver to send the dish to 1w. If its not in the right place when it stops, get your ladder out and re-align the dish to 1w if your certain your co-ordinates are correct

It certainly sounds to me like you have the wrong co-ordinates in the receiver.

Actually, i think you may have just put them into the receiver wrong

Hastings is approximately 50.85299 N, 0. 56456E

in your reciver you should have

000.564 East & 050.853 North.

Thanks Nano

The coordinates I use are almost the same as the ones you give; 000.553 East and 050.877 North.

I have a new satellites.xml file in etc/tuxbox, not var/tuxbox. Is this important? If I open var/tuxbox, it jumps to etc/tuxbox.

I have copied the one you sent in to etc/tuxbox and no difference. I did a manual scan for Intelsat/Thor 0.8 and it found nothing.

Should I use Usals or not?

Also, can I not use the Positioner Setup facility to turn the dish until it is tuned in as an alternative to manually going up the laddder and repositioning the disk?

Thanks a lot

I'll be honest i was never a fan of USALS, as i used to always use DISEqC 1.2, but if everything is setup correctly USALS should work fine.

I couldn't comment on if you can use DISEqC 1.2 with your image as i have LT7 on mine. LT7 doesn't give you the options to use anything other than USALS for motor control.

Have you tried telling the motor to go to '0'? See where it parks itself. If its near where the motor goes when its going to 1w, then thats your problem.

Send it to 1w and then loosen off the motor bolts, Not the dish ones and rotate the motor on the shaft until you get a signal. Tighten up the bolts and your done.

Its certainly sounding like mis alignment to me. As much as i detest anything made by Dream Multimedia, i know that the Enigma2 machines are usually ok at controlling a motor. Mines a clone just in case your wondering :D

Your not running through any type of satellite switch first are you?

The motor should be the first thing in line from the reciver, it should go, receiver, motor (any switch) then the LNB.

Also if the coax is too long it may be that the DC voltage drop is too high and the motor is getting short changed on DC voltage and it wont move correctly.

The coax with a copper plated steel center conductor will have a higher DC resistance then the good stuff with a pure copper center conductor, if your run to the motor is over 30 meters you could have problems if the coax is the cheaper stuff.

If that were true you wouldn't be able to control multiple motors.
