There is an offer to upgrade from a 2.8m dish to 3m for the price difference (£250). Apparently this pushes signal strength from 60-70% to 90%. For me, this may solve any problems with misalignment and gurantees radio from the spdif output of my sluggish Sony.

The only questions are;

1. Will the improvement br real and

2. Will my roof slab 1.5m x 1.5m x 0.5m not secured to the structure with iron be enough to take the wind load in a very windy area?

Any advice please:)

Hi Fred

Roof slab isn't a problem.

I'm sorry, I don't know much about the spdif, I think sound quality must be really important to you if you continue to use the sexy looking but otherwise useless Sony out here in Cyprus. A 3m dish will improve your signal quality by a very large amount, though with your 2600 I'm surprised you still have issues. I may be dropping by into Paphos soon. If you PM your mobile number to me then I'll drop in and check your dish.

A word of warning about 3m dishes.....they are not all equal...you get what you pay for. Make sure you are getting a DH or Famaval (extended) not one of the 'other' types. They aren't too bad to start with but they may warp after a few years in the heat, and the stands don't seem solid enough for the size of dish in my opinion, and they tend to need retunes more often - I think because they don't tighten to the base so well!

Cheers

Nick
