Hello all, i currently have an indoor aerial for freeview T & average reception. I also have an old sky analogue dish on the side of the house which still picks up cnn & german channels, i'd rather buy a digital reciever & lnb( monoblock if poss ) and use the old dish ( think its a 60cm mesh ) than put up an outdoor aerial. Question is, will that work with the dish & cable already installed, or would i have to change anything ?

I know bugger all about these things but think i'll get more for the money than simply upgrading the aerial. Thanks in advance for any help & advice.

:-Welcome1

The dish is pointing at the wrong satellite for S*y digital - but would be simply to move. Check the bolts are OK and you can move to the new position, left of the present direction (from back of dish) check other dishes in your area.

The part that points at the dish LNB may need changed but that's not expensive. The cable should be OK.

Why bother when S*y will install free?

I'm not looking to get sky digital/freeview channels, but digital channels from 19.2 ( same as analogue position ? ) & 13.2 if possible. I'll stick to the terrestrial box for the rest.

Dish and cable would be OK the LNB may need changing - best try a Freeview satellite receiver on the dish and check. Beg or borrow one until Lidl get them back in!

Your present LNB frequencies may not cover all the available channels.

You can check the free digital one on Lyngsat web site - here...

I have done this with an 80 cm channel master dish and a technomate 5500d with monoblock. No problem whatsoever. Now all I need to do is to patch the technomate....

Why? when its reciving channels already, dont fix what isnt broke.

Another thing with the old sky dishes the u bolts tend to be a little fragile. as theyre very old now..so if your going to adjust be careful.

also i suggest getting a technomate 1500ci :)

I've had a wee look & alot of people seems to like the technomate, will have to search around for a good price ( tight budget or tight arse, take your pick:) )

Leave the dish where it is.. it will be fine. remeber hotbird will be to the right of 19.2..

Okay, just put the lnb on horizontal ( flat ) and hopefully good to go. Huge thanks to everbody by the way, hoping to make this as painless as possible.

Gear arrived this morning, have flashed/patched the Technomate & fitted the lnb, which was a pain in the arse ( super mega rusty screws & bolts ). Ended up losing astra so decided to do it as most people would & use hotbird as the main one. Okay, so far i've got hotbirds quality level blipping between 60 odd % & 0 whilst astra's solid at 72-5 %. Seeing as the dish was pointing at astra to start with do i need to elavate the dish to strengthen hotbirds signal, then rotate the lnb for astra ? if so, by about how much ?

Oooohh, i've got astra 28.2 as well @ 70% currently watching itv 1 in artifact free vision( whilst i wait on details for the above) which is something i could very rarely do on terrestrial:)

Yes, elevate the dish and the rotaion shoiuld be only a few degrees, akin to the amount of skew required. :)

I'll do it after qualifying, this is just fantastic stuff ! didn't think i'd get most of the freeview tv as well. If i get men & motors back i'll be sooooooo happy, i've been missing my weekly slot of build or bust.

Well i pressed on & the best i can get for hotbird is that fluctuating quality signal 0-60ish%, changing the elavation only weakens that signal. there is a house & tree ( quite large ) across the street & the dish itself is mounted on the east side of the bungalow(only place). Either of these could be the problem, both astra sats are coming in strong though, so for now i'm pleased.

Think i need a bit help, although 19.2 is showing 75% quality no programs are viewable ? just get a no/bad signal message on every channel. Only 28.2 works, is the reciever showing the same signal for both astra sats ?.
