HI ALL

This morning I went to a car boot sale a few miles away and came back home with two lovely decks. A Technics RS-B205 and a Sanyo RD S20. The Technics has belt problems (bad rewind/play) but they have not gone gooey, but the Sanyo has. It got over my fingers and it took ages to get it off with IPA. The Sanyo will be a nice little deck to get up and running and it's smaller than your average tape deck with needle VU's.

Can I ask other members what they use to remove gooey belts? :D

you could try nail varnish remover (acetone) or carburetor cleaner you need to use something that dosen't leave a residue, it seems a waste to use vodka:unsure

I don't drink anyway! Looks like I'll have to persist with IPA.

Vodka is the liquid of choice here. It has no effect on the usual plastic found on rollers and pulleys in many of the 80's/90's machines, and deals with nylon cogs very effectively.

Only the pure stuff though, none of your lemon/blackcurrant shite.

If the belts have gone "Gooey" then it's time for new ones.

Here is where we use to get ours.

I use Vodka to clean the heads on my tape deck in the car. Decent Chrome deoxide tapes are getting a pain to get hold of though. Listening to my tapes makes a nice change from the Radio or CDs in the disc changer.

If you have ever been to Spain a lot of bars use Vokda to clean stainless steel cooker splash backs and other stuff with as its cheaper than cleaning fluid.

The only thing I use Vodka for is removing some of the old brain cells.

A lot of the Cow Girls around here use it as a beauty enhancement, they look real good after a late night out at the bar, I just wish it would last till they leave.
