Broken hard drive now swapped out of the netbook, this afternoon I shall put win7 on the laptop in between helping the missus make some apple chutney :D

Had a bit of a dig around in the VRS client and on their website, but can't seem to see anything about the splat maps (got a few flags & silhouettes files downloaded but not all) - so how can I get those maps?

On your browser map click on the "gear menu" top left. Click on "receiver range", which brings up 5 options as shown below - mine is set to feet - you might be set to metres depending on how your options are set. Tick one or more and your splat map should appear :)

You can change the colours in the options should you want to.

^^

thats the month or so before the hdd died in my netbook, and running with a wonky antenna and no amplifier on the antenna. (The antenna is still wonky but I do have an amplifier now - just awaiting Amazon to finish delivering all the interconnects :D)

Having clicked on the Menu button, I'm not getting the same options list as you mentioned above - on that W10 m/c it seems to be running a mixture of IE11 and Edge, and the latter is a bu**er to work with in situations like this , and so whilst I have the range circles up, I can't (or at least not yet) get anything like the splat maps.

BTW:
On the subject of antennas and amps, I'm getting the feeling that I do have a cabling fault somewhere between the co-linear and the dongle, and will have to check that out before the rains comes later today.
Also, I found these Televes units, some of which can provide power to an amp further down the cable before the antenna
https://www.televes.com/sites/default/files/01030163_007_es-pt-fr-en-it-de-pl.pdf

And these which can provide both power and amplification - in some cases right up to 2500MHz
https://www.televes.com/sites/default/files/HTE/ht/01030460_002_es_pt_fr_en_it_de_pl_ru.pdf

I also got in contact with Blake UK about what they might stock, and Daren Loxley replied but it is not currently a lot - however, when I pointed him in the direction of the above products then he is finding out some price and delivery data because he contributes to Flightradar.com and so he is interested in finding out more himself (and knows the guy who runs Televes UK operation). He also pointed me to this thread which has quite a lot of info on both antennas and amps/power injection. https://forum.planefinder.net/threads/ads-b-diy-antenna.23/

Hmm strange. @Llew had similar issues getting a splat map & Im not sure he ever got to the bottom of it.

Let me ask some questions on the 360Radar fb site & see if its a known problem

You will need to make a few slight tweeks to virtual radar server, so you can produce a Splat.

As you need you location to be set. (I will get you some screen shots in a bit)

Just run (very untidily ) a new cable from the antennas to the junction/smart switch box (and bypassed that) near the house to try and improve the signals.

Recent Screen Shot: - can't correct my location because I can't move the marker in the menu option where it says that you can do that. Am actually in Hayes, just North of Heathrow. Have
seen some plane tracks out to about 35(ish) miles from here

Another thing, MLat Client is connected to the relevant server but is apparently not exchanging data - whereas it was this morning. Any ideas?

My location is set (to 4 digits after the decimal place) in the VRS Client, but the web-display does not show the same longitude, and, as I said, I can't seem to correct that.

I will get you some screenshots, in a bit. And some more files.

The mlat client needs a username, have you spoken to phill or rob?

If not with your permission I will talk to phill or rob, for you.

No, that was the egg hitting the floor last night after we got back from shopping, and it slipped out of my fingers as I tried to put it in the egg rack in the fridge:(

I emailed them for a Username & P/W on Wednesday and Phil replied a couple of times with some helpful info, but when I had sorted out my problems and sent him a further request for name & PW I didn't get any reply - so please do go ahead and contact him.

I have downloaded that file, but I have a question: I try to avoid running any more programmes (etc.) from my C:\ drives that necessary (and this has saved my bacon many times, especially when I upgraded/downgraded the OS!), and my Virtual Radar stuff is almost entirely run on another partition on the same m/c (the ACER) - so can I assume that it will be OK to do the same for this lot?

PS: Now that I have expanded the .rar file (that's a whoppa of a set of files - 273MB!), and I'm almost ready to start the process - but how long do you think this should take, and although I have already closed VRS on the m/c, should I also close dump1090 and MLat Client?

That's right, I never got the splat map despite various tweaks of the different browsers I tried.
Wasn't particularly worried, I only needed the visible aeroplanes, flight info/silhouettes/icons etc. I'll have a try again sometime when I go back to it.

Yes anywhere really, just not in the virtual radar installation folder.

As you will have to point vrs to the new location.

I don't have a working sdr PC at the moment, I am in the middle of a few upgrades.

Just as soon as I get back up and running I can show you the screen shots.

Chris,

If you don't mind I think it would be better to have a go at that lot tomorrow morning, or some other time tomorrow, as I am feeling a little "tattered" now and I still have some things to do around the house (feed the cats, get something to eat, "relax"!)..

However, I will first take a look at all those files and see where I expect it will be necessary to move them.

Thanks a lot for all the help today.
