I don't know of any F-plugs that need soldering so I would think that you've done something wrong there.

There are three types of F-plug; screw on, compression and crimp. There's a guide to fitting a compression type plug here Tips and Tricks – SatsUK ; you can't fit a compression plug (or a crimp plug) without a special tool but the guide should help with identification.

In fact you can actually use the guide to fit a screw type plug. The important thing is to make sure that there is not even the slightest whisp of copper wire from the outer braid touching the centre copper wire. When the plug is fitted make sure that the central wire is not bent over before refitting to the receiver.

It was the antenna connection on the controller snapped it off, it had a wire in the back of it leading to the circuit board.

A little less analogue, and a lot more crap.

There are only two connections to an F -plug. Unless you have a large soldering iron that is bridging the centre contact when making good the broken connection you really cannot go wrong.

You might however find a better repair by using some original solder with lead in the compound, modern lead free types are notorious for failing to make a good joint on small board repairs.

Somewhere in England (possibly?)!
Maybe it's a bit like those on my old (but very handy) sat beeper where the connectors kept breaking off the board until i I fixed the problem as per para 2 - the F-connectors on that fit over the edge of the board, with two relatively large grounding lugs on the underside and the coax centre connection on the upper side.

If so, you will probably have to remove the board from the case, clean up the solder pads on both sides and then resolder all three - mine needed a faily high power solder gun to melt enough solder to make solid joints, and I agree with CH that using old leaded solder will probably be easier than trying to do the job with lead-free stuff.
