Can anyone advise ?

I'm going down the Freesat route as I'm fed up with paying Sky for channels I don't watch, My area (/house) cannot get analogue TV let alone freeview !

Is there any way of watching 1 channel aand recording another without Sky+ ?

I know that I can buy an addtional Sky box and a dual / quad / wtc LNB and set them up as follows:

box 1 direct to TV AV1
Box 2 to recorder, then to TV AV2 - set the recorder to record from AV2

This way, I do the general watching on AV1 from Sky box 1
I record from AV2 from Sky box 2 - hey presto, sky+ without Sky+ !

But ! is there any way of doing this in the same room and the remotes of the Sky boxes NOT clashing ?

Please help, I hope there is a solution :-)

 ...........:toke:

Welcome to the forum scrutchl

Well you will need two Freesat cards of course, however regarding the remotes that could present a problem, and I cannot say I have come across a solution to this either however some are more familiar with sky boxes and may be aware of a solution.

Global have a solution for this, the Super Plus Combiner SPC4, it will allow four boxes to be separately controlled, but the input needs to be via the RF2 outlet.

May be worth waiting to see what happens with BBC Freesat boxes, as I'm sure there will be a twin tuner PVR in the range.

Does anyone know whether I can subcribe to Sky+ (for the £10/mth) and have Freesat ?

That would be a solution

Apparently you can, but that's a lot of money to pay for just the ability to record, you'd be better just going for the basic Sky package at £16, then you could also record.

...

Have been wondering around the web and found this....

Looks like it may be my solution to the '2 digiboxes in 1 room' problem.

Instead of 2 ordinary Sky boxes, would it possible to use 1 std Sky box and 1 Sky+ box as they have different remotes ?

Yes it would. :)

What I would add though, it is my opinion, that once Freesat kicks off and makes a PVR available, Sky may well try and combat uptake, by making Sky+ recording features available to boxes with FTV cards for no extra charge.

If it happens, then you heard it here first, if it doesn't, then let's hope Sky read this and make it happen. :)
