Since seeing this superb piece of kit at the Mediasat show, I've been unable to find out who is selling it in the UK, if anyone and have not had a reply from the manufacturers.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Hello Rolf

No idea, but tell us about this piece of kit.

If it interested you, I'm sure it will interest the rest of us.

Not much to say about it really, but for those that for one reason or other cannot have a movable dish it is a great multi-satellite solution.

This dish has a sub-reflector (a la Gregorian dishes) which due to its peculiar geometry focusses the signal into a line rather than one or a few points. Several LNBs can then be placed along the line. The angular separation of the sats that can be received from this type of dish is much greater than that of a traditional fixed dish using multiple offsetg LNBs.

Just had a look at the URL

What a novel idea.

A bit like the ones you used to see with the bar across the front, but I understand they were not all that efficient.

How about some one designing an add on to standard dishes that makes them just that little bit more efficient so that we can pick up those signals which are just out of reach?

A bit like the length of a piece of string I know, but any thoughts. - Extension Pieces - Coatings - ???

According to one of the articles I read, it is of Russian design, and what is really unique is the Azimuth spread available at close to full gain, 40+degrees. With those figures I can get my internet from EuropeStar at 45e and still obtain 1w with a reasonable signal strength.

The older style dish with mounting bar can only really effectively spread 10-15 degrees.

For those not aware, another fundamentally different design of multiple-LNB "dish" surfaced a few months ago, and you may find this interesting too.

It too is from the same company, "Wavefrontier"! In fact, I wonder if it's the one that the poster was originally referring to...?

It is a convex hemispherical unit that sits flat on the ground (say) and above which at suitable points a number of LNBs are suspended. Difficult to explain. Easier to see...
http://www.wavefrontier.com/hemisphere.htm
They even have a spherical unit (but here does the LNB go...?)
http://www.wavefrontier.com/sphere.htm

And while we're on the subject of innovative dish designs, don't forget about the visiosat bisatellite dish

Looked at that one at the show as well 2old, superb idea, but not in the price range of most domestic users, to the degree that they wouldn't even hazzard a guess, plus it uses specialist LNBs as far as I can see.

The VisioSat is a good dish as well, but again hard to get hold of in the UK (through my sources anyway), I get acceptable performance on a 9 degree spread with a 60cm, but this would certainly improve that, whilst looking good at the same time.

Below is a snip from the reply received from Wave Frontier.

"I would like to inform you that our antennas can be delivered to you through our agent in Europe in the middle of September. We are planning to provide Toroidal antenna to the customers as an individual package. The package will consist of Main Reflector, Sub Reflector, Back Mount, Ku-band LNBF Bracket, 2 Support Arms, 5 LNBF Holders, Screw Kit for Assembly without LNBF and Fixed Pole Mount. It will cost USD 55 for T55 and USD 90 for T90 including delivery charges. You will need to buy fixed pole mount of 42 mm diameter for T55 and 60 mm diameter for T90 separately in your market to install our antenna.

I am very pleased to keep my word to inform you of distributing our antenna in Europe as I promised you before. May I ask which size of Toroidal antenna do you need between T55 and T90 and how many quantities you need? It is not easy for you to decide it, please, let me know what your favorite satellites and the exact position of latitude and longitude you live. Then, I would be able to recommend you which size would be better for you."

I may consider ordering a few if anyone is interested let me know, the only extra you should have to pay is onward carriage and tax if any.

That seems very reasonable indeed to my taxed-to-death Dutch eyes.
I am certainly interested in one.
Mail me and we can discuss logistics/carriage.
Now if some kind soul is doing a special on a five-pack <= 0.7db universal LNB...

Yes 2old it does sound reasonable, I only hope that there isn't any confusion due to the language barrier, still I'll find out when I mail them back. Let me know which size of dish you require and I'll also check out to see if there's a deal on LNBs available through any of my contacts.

To Rolf

Sorry but the catalogue and manual of this antenna is rather misleading

The Toroid 55 will just about receive satellites at about 30 degrees maimum. This means 1 West and 45 West is not possible

In practice even 13 East and 45 East were just out of reach though it was possible to get 45 and 19 East

If you are looking at all satellites positioned close together (28, 19, 13, and 5 East then there is no problem (except the gain of the 55 prevents anything apart from Russian channels appearing from 5 East)

By the way it will NOT allow you to get satellites at 3 degree spacing owing to the size of the clamps and the LNB feed diameters, so 19, 16 and 13 are out.

Toroid 90 (not tested)is even less forgiving with satellites only 20 degrees spacing available being received (though the gain is higher)

Cost of T55 when imported works out approimately the same as three 65 cm steel antennas so you have to work out if it really is worth the hassle. Nevertheless it is a very well designed piece of kit, and well constructed. If your stuck with only one dish permission then this might be for you

Alternatively go get a motor and fitting kit, it really expands the horizon (sic)

Channel Hopper,

Seems you tried out the Toroidal 55?

Have just orderd a Toroidal 55 from a Force dealer in Denmark. (EUR 200) My purpose is to receive 1W,5E,13E,19E & 28.2E from my location around Frankfurt, Germany

You mentioned that only the russian channels came through on 5E which would indicate to me that I can forget about Viasat?

According to the artikel in Tele-satellite (http://members.aon.at/pauksi/Telesatellit%20seite%20(2).htm) did not mention this problem, or do I interpret the results wrong?

Has anyone had any experience with this kit?
