Yes Dave, if you get something like the Hauppauge, you can use multidec and use it independently from your main TV. The picture is normally excellent in full screen mode, but you will need to use the main satellite receiver to move the dish.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 08-Mar-02 AT 08:57 PM (GMT)]Have a look at this link for which cards are usable with the Multidec software. http://members.home.nl/happysat/PCTV.HTM

There are a number of Satellite PC cards available, have a look on the http://www.hauppauge.com http://www.hauppauge.com/html/dvb_s.htm site plus places like E-Bay for second hand ones, there are a few from people that have given up on internet by satellite, who are tryiong to sell.

I've trawled through all the UK based PC suppliers and the best price I could find for a Hauppauge DVB-s card was £168.

Other than the 2nd hand route suggested by rolf can amyone suggest a cheaper source ? Or are any of the other cards that work with MultiDec cheaper than the Hauppauge.

I would have thought that with MultiDec8 being available the £168 buys you a FreeCam equivalent, not bad value. It really all depends on whether the MultiDec can be adapted to cope with the newer encryptions.

Thanks for the replies. I already have a freecam so my interest in Multidec was not to get extra channels but because I enjoy trying out anything new on the satellite scene. Do I assume from your replies that the alternatives to the Hauppauge card are no cheaper.

I assumed that if I bought the DVB-s card I could just plug it into the spare lnb I have on my dish (I can set up the lnb, I don't need advice on this). I already have spare f plugs, cable & coax plugs
- is there anything else I need, I can't think of anything, but maybe you know better.

Dont ask me,Ive just found out about 1 of these. All i know as far as my setup goes i have a dual output UNI LNB so i can go straight into
the spare,THAT way i can watch me sat during (PROHEBITION) 5.30PM-9.00PM.and not havr 2 suffer soaps. So if your setup is a seperate LNB
ITS gotta B a universal and wheres it pointing.(good thing is how many
Wifes look inside your PC. So you can bull em by saying all computers
get Sat if a dish is up.(bcause if they find youve spent another 2ton
it`ll cost you dearly in the long run.
