What are "Feeds?"

In Lyngsat and satcoDX listings I often come across the word "feeds?" Feeds of what? Are they video feeds? If so, why dont they have a regular channel name (such as BBC etc.)

Feeds are programs or anything a broadcaster wishes to send over satellite without a dedicated transponder - like live news, football even training events. They are usually leased by a broadcaster for specific events so over a period of time may transmit for several.

They are not usually intended for anyone but the recipient to view. Indeed a lot are encrypted or require a large dish to view.

Others are transmitted on satellites that Joe Public generally wouldn't be pointing at.
