I am getting a new satellite system installed next week that will enable me to view channels from Hot Bird (13.0'E) and the Astra cluster at 19.2'E.

I have been informed I can download some software for my 'TM 5500 D super' receiver (which has no slots for any viewing cards) that will allow me to access (decrypt) some of the pay channels- can anyone tell me where I can find and download such software?

As I am new to all this satellite stuff I don't know if I need a keys, hex files or something completely different! Can some please explain to me what I am looking for?

Have moved this to the receiver software section, there is a sticky thread at the top of this section, with a list of official and unofficial software sites, look for Alsat for the Technomate software.

Thanks for your replies.

I have had a look around the sites you have recommended but I'm afraid to say I am still none the wiser!

What I am looking for is 'free' software that I can download that will decrypt pay channels on my TM 5500 D super receiver!

There is software I can download from the official Technomate website but I would imagine this software will not decrypt any pay channels? or will it?

If somebody can explain in the most basic terms (as I am thick!) what I have to do it would be much appreciated! (bearing in mind I don't understand any of the terminology such as keys, hex files, loader software etc)

No it wont. You need the modified software off one of the sites we mentioned earlier. The modified software has all the keys etc built into it. You just grab the appropriate s/w for your receiver, load it up and away you go.. The loader file is the s/w that sits on your computer and communicates with the sat receiver.

Ok thanks- I am beggining to understand a bit more now.

I looked at the alsat page (h**p://www.alsat.co.uk/shop/list.php?c=downloads) but couldn't find a software download for the 'TM 5500 D super'- there was a software update for the 'TM 5500 DA' but I presume this is the wrong model? Does anyone know where I can find a software update for my model?

Also- there is no explanation as to what the software found on this page will do to my receiver ie. which channels it will decrypt (if any). Is this not just the same software found on the official Technomate site?

Hi Jeff, I was in your position until about 6 months ago. I didn't know anything about sats but now I know enough to watch English tv on the 2 satellites that you will be getting. Unfortunately, the receiver that you are getting is not well supported in the 'patch' department. A patch is the software that you load into your receiver (via serial port). The link that you posted was for official software from Technomate. That won't unlock any pay-tv channels. I haven't seen any patches posted on Alsat for the 5000 series. If you were willing to consider a different receiver then there would be a few more options for you. The 1000 series Technomates are well supported for patches and they make good entry level receivers. That's what I have and I'm very happy with it. Good luck.

hi,
your receiver should have an R 232 connection on the back of it,most computers also have an R232 port, buy an r 232 cable for less than £5-,you then need a technomate loader software[might be available to download on the technomate site] to download software to the receiver from the computer.
i know with the receiver i have the patch file has the extension name .stb
it is firmware rather than keys you appear to be looking for.
hope this is of use.

"buy an r 232 cable for less than £5-,"

You need to use a null modem cable.
The loader, patches and how to are all on Alsat, as well as a list of receivers they have patches for. Ask on that site if you're not sure of something. All the info is on their forums not the shopsite.
