Forward Error Correction - amount of error correction applied to the signal for it to be usable. The lower the FEC, the higher the correction. So, FEC of 1/2 means that 50% of data is used for error correction, whereas 2/3 means that only a third is used. Lower FECs are easier to lock on low signal.

Most receivers resolve FEC automatically without having to specify it.

as you guys are here... is there a better source for feeds ? and is there transponders/ frequencies that are more likely to be active.. basically I'm very new to this, is there a frequency where you can pretty much "guarantee" there will be some feed activity.. i know that's a dumb way of putting , given the unannounced nature of feeds.:-ohcrap. but you know what i mean ?
cheers rob :rolleyes:

The site you linked to, Satelliweb, is probably the best site for up to date feeds. You could spend hours blind scanning for feeds and not find much more than they get. Saying that however, I can usually find feeds on Sundays on 23.5 East for Gaelic Games in Ireland before Satelliweb has them. And again any Ireland football games for RTE, like the one this evening will nearly always be on 1 West. You will learn things like this from experience, and soon become familiar with certain patterns. One thing you will notice is that feeds peak in the afternoon, early evening with less activity outside those times.

KingofSat and Lyngsat have feed frequencies listed. On 10 East you can usually find an Associated Press (AP) feed on the air. 7 East and 10 East are two of the busiest satellites for feeds.

Eutelsat 10A (10°E) - All transmissions - frequencies - KingOfSat

I hardly ever do any blind scanning, but rely mostly on Satelliweb for things I might want to watch. I have a Dr HD receiver, which being non Linux does not require the FEC to find feeds. But I have that looped through to a TBS 5925 which is a USB receiver, equivalent to the 6983 computer card. It can resolve some feeds, using the power of the graphics card, which can't be done on any normal satellite receiver.

That is the problem with those that sit back and let others do the work, Non Committed.
I , as all true feedhunters would prefer, Not Confirmed, until two or more have found it!

NC=Not Confirmed,
As only a few HD satellite receivers give Forward Error Correction readings TM5502HD & TM5302HD
+ a few PC cards & USB boxes:-
TBS6903 Professional DVB-S2 Dual Tuner PCIe Card
TBS5925 Professional DVB-S2 TV Tuner USB

FEC vanished from most satellite boxes about 15 years ago when my old Echostar & Strong used to display these parameters,

So I was surprised when TM included fec that is very useful when I compile satellite charts.
