I have been looking on ebay for a simple to use set top box, just for freeview use, but don't know the good makes from the bad. Are the Pace boxes any good e.g. DS430N? I also need a 60cm dish, would I be better off buying a bundled deal or buying seperate?

TIA.

You need to get your terminology sorted out.

Freeview is the DTT service via your aerial
Freesatfromsky is the free channels only on a sky box and using the 20 quid fsfs card to get C4, C5, 5US, 5Life, & Sky 3
FTA sat (not a service name but the description of what you get) is using a non sky box to watch the free channels on 28E.

Any fta box will do for FTA sat.
Any Sky box will give you fsfs with an appropriate fsfs card.
A Freeview box will only work if you have a dtt service in your area.

The Pace DS430N is highly rated.

Just avoid Amstrad boxes (new or used) and any old boxes, particularly Grundig ones.

The Pace is OK, as is the Thompson.

And stay clear of panasonic 30s - they used to be great but now have no end of software problems so might be a few going cheap, but don't be tempted.

When setting up in Donegal (ROI), will I still be pointing the dish towards the Astra 28.2 satellite?

Local free-ads papers usually have loads for sale. Many with yellow house cards and dishes for as little as £20 (auction sites charges for carriage is usually £10+ for STB alone)

Pay as little as you can.... All the older boxes are rubbish (psu reliability kits are only about £4.00 so its worth gretting one just in case)
