What is a Softcam?

Hi

me again!!

I was just on the MyTheatre site looking for a plugin to get my Pinnacle PCTV Sat-CI (TwinHan - chipset) serial port remote control to work. surfice toi say I couldn't find one so waiting to hear back fromthem.

But I came across a CAM emulator or something there so just wondering if this is an example of a softcam and if so what exactly do they do? if at all anything?

My Satellite Setup
Technomate 5402 HD M2 Ci, DM7000s, Transparent 80cm Dish, Moteck SG2100 DiseqC motor, lots of legacy gear. Meters: Satlook Digital NIT, Promax HD Ranger+ spectrum analyser.

You can use a CAM emulator with a phoenix mode programmer and use a standard card rather than a sofcam and softcamkey.
