what is a transpondeur?

My Satellite Setup
Xsat dtva with an official canal sat card and monoblock.
80 cm dish
My Location
London
when i download channels on my receiver i must select astra or hotbird then input the frequency and H or V, but i also have transpondeur 1/2/3 .... what are they for?

A transponder is a frequency output on a satellite and will either contain a single analogue channel, or several digital channels, see http://www.lyngsat.com/hotbird.html
