1. What is the best receiver to buy for less than 250$, May be good sensitive tuner .
2. What you select from these 3

- EDISION OS MIO 4K HEVC
- Amiko A5
- Freesat , GTMEDIA GTC - (Android+DVB-S2+T2/Cable/ISDBT)

Impiossible to answer with no parameters. What is you area of interest? eg

Ease of use
Good picture
hobby use
feed hunting

Its all down to personal preference. Some people love the Enigma2 software. I reckon its a pile of steaming donkey poop.

I personally wouldn't buy anything not running Enigma2
If you are familiar with Linux, that's the way to go
There's a virtually infinite number of things you can do with a Linux (Enigma2) STB that you can't even dream of doing on basic receiver.

Leaving aside donkey poop considerations, I'm very impressed with the Octagon SX88. sensitive tuner, easy to use and quick blind search...

In similar vein, I swear by the Edision Primo which has pretty much the same attributes as the Octagon SX88.

I somewhat agree with Tony here, after bad experiences with the old AZbox running E2 I thought the same as Analoguesat, but since blind scan issues with Ka LNB's and other fixes are now in place I would not be without my Octagon SF8008.

No idea why Analoguesat is so against Enigma2. It is just a way to have a common user interface on dozens of different pieces of hardware. If there is a problem with specific hardware that is different but wouldn't be the fault of Enigma2.

I can get out my Vu+ Duo from 10 years ago, load the latest OpenViX image and have the identical look and feel to all my other boxes. With non-Enigma2 receivers you have to re-learn the interface every time you buy a new piece of hardware.

Also, if you have an Enigma2 receiver with a decent tuner, like the Mio or SF8008, you can blindscan and filter the output in ways that are impossible on non-Enigma2 firmware.

@scopus, how do you rate the SF8008 against the Mio 4K? If you could only have one which would it be and why? Not sure which one I would give up if I had to choose. I like that the Mio 4K will blindscan MIS/PLS. And I like that the SF8008 can open T2MI. I really don't know. Currently have the SF8008 connected but that is just incidental.

This is so misleading. You don't need to know the first thing about Linux to benefit from these receivers. This is like saying Samsung phones are only good for users that know about Android.

I'm the same as you, but I do like the SF8008 with the T2MI. Not a great deal to choose between the two tof the to be honest. Certainly the
Mio is a better build quality that's for sure. At the moment I also have the SF8008 connected

The Octagon SX88+ is a very versatile receiver does nearly everything that my TM5302HD can do except the Blind Scan on the SX88+ hangs up on some data transponders o_O so I do a manual back up using the info gained by the TM5302HD,

The SX88+ also clears Multi-Stream French TF1,France 1 ect & Italian Rai 1-2-3 ect all in HD :):Y

Because ever since I first encountered it Ive found it to be a complete and utter pile of sh1te to use. I took great delight in slinging the Vu+ Duo very hard into the the WEEE recycling bin at the local salvage yard after it failed & E2 hasnt improved at all on the Mutant several years down the line. The Mutant will be my last E2 box as almost any other receiver os has to be an improvement!

I also dumped my last E2 receiver continually locking up I spent literally hours setting it up only for it to fail again,

I was going to give it away but I knew it would continue to haunt me when the new owner will asked for help as the software is not user friendly & needs to be re-written but this rarely happens as the software writer moves on to more doomed projects as the manufacturer's do not want to spend the money sorting out the software that could be much better than it is :( learning curve several weeks,

The Octagon SX88+ has excellent back up with frequent software upgrades via the Ethernet port :) learning curve 2 hours.

Step learning curve especially for me at first, but to me it is so versatile and I hop around the menus now with great ease...

, I certanly didn't say to use a enigma2 stb you have to know about Linux.
And yes, most Samsung phone users don't use it for more than facebooking a selfie! :-lmao

If you know a 'couple' things about Linux it will certainly help with problems that you may encounter on those receivers.

Will a user that know nothing about Linux, never used a command line in his life be able to try to fix/see what's causing crashes/modify to his own needs an Enigma2 system? No.
They will just throw it in the trash bin like Analoguesat and others have done.

I personally abuse my Duo2 and can't remember the last time it crashed, and there's always multiple recordings running... I can't see myself without autotimers, transcoded streaming, continuous background timeshift, auto full EPG downloader, PiP, being able to run my own scripts, GUI customizations, full power to do wtf I want, etc....

All you do is report the bug and in a few days it will be fixed. I can't remember the last time my OpenViX loaded family box crashed on me. But if you use a crappy, unstable image it will happen all the time.

@william-1 what hardware/image was that? If you used either the Mio or the SF8008 you wouldn't have lock-ups, and both have reasonable tuner sensitivity. Also, Edision and Octagon have both been very active in driver improvement since the debut of these receivers. Octagon had teething trouble with DiSEqC commands in blindscan but now that is solved the receiver is a pretty good feed hunter. What non-enigma2 receiver can you pick a symbol rate range in blindscan? What non-enigma2 receiver can you tell to skip known transponders in blindscan? What non-enigma2 receiver can you tell to skip transponders known to be coming from adjecent satellites in blindscan? If you get a receiver like the TM5302HD and you tell it to scan 9 east it returns loads of transponders from 10 east.

You can set the start & finish of the TM5302HD Blind Scan for the active part of the Ku Band for Eutelsat 9B @ 9 east to 11700 to 12500 & you will get all the transponders for 9 east,
You can also breakdown 10 east into the active Ku band here:-
10700 to 10950 V
10950 to 11700 H & V
12500 to 12750 H & V
This goes for any satellite using my active transponder guide:-
The Feed Hunters Guide to the European Ku band - SatsUK

This type of Blind Scan is not possible with with the SX88+ this is why I manually update this type of receiver.

OpenViX on my E2 receiver.
