Yes I had a problem here earlier too. As yet no reason but I'm sure I'll hear later.

Is that the general consensus then that these various sites are being
spammed, in some sort of denial of service attack. Or is it still
just speculation at this time on what's going on.

Welcome Bbigfoot. :)

At All, I believe that we had a short outage this morning, but Chris will have to check on the server log as to what caused it. Will PM him and ask, it may have just been a server update, as the server managers are pretty proactive when it comes to peak performance. :). :)

This is not good does it not take a massive amount of bandwidth to
accomplish something like this. Or could it be, some of us have been
infected with a Trojan and are machines are zombies and helping
with this D.O.S. attack
I have done a Trojan and virus sweep and monitored my bandwidth
nothing out of the ordinary here but its not out of the realm of possibility
that some of us have been infected and are part of the problem contributing
to the success of the attack. I think every one should do a Trojan sweep of there computers.

Unfortunately I feel someone that is clever enough to pull this off
is also cleaver enough not to get caught.

Interesting, but never the less - not cricket - and only causes infighting. But perhaps that is the intention by whoever :(

It would only be infighting if it a disgruntled board member
that was doing this. What if it is an out side source that is losing money
and in there best interest, if these boards did not exist

Tracing back the attack shouldn't be to hard I guess.
If one of the attacked boards would delete the index file their apache webserver would generate an errorlog entry which should display the http referer of which the attack is originating from..
Or am I wrong here?

Depends on the type of attack, if they have used trojans then the attack comes from many sources all unaware that their PCs are being used.

But I'm sure some boffin will be able to find something out if they can find the source/virus/trojan.

Hopefully it will die down and the counter measures will take effect.

Sad really that the majority have to suffer....

I think such an attack would have to come from multiable sources.

But who would be capable of such attacks?
Just some hacker or maybe a paytv company like NDS who's behind this?

Did not know that. But this attack is well orchestrated I am beginning to think
its a pro who is doing this and a pro does nothing for free.
