Hi,

I am in France near Paris and I have the idea to put a 1m80 antenna in my garden.
What are the possible satellites with this size in C, Ka band?
Of course I will post the complete installation here.
have a nice week end

Hi Channel Hopper,
I have no idea, it's an old box but never used in the stock of an installer who wants to get rid of it.
it is a Prime Focus with 8 or 10 steel petal with a polar mount and a foot.

@zorrin You could show couple of pictures of the dish. But from last post I've understood it is petalized made in PRC and out of tin antenna. That could be OK for C-band not Ku and even more not for Ka bands. However, Ku reception in the middle of Europe is not a big del, so you will probably be able to get reception from ~40 satellites (of course if you have H-H view from installation place).

If it's a prime focus dish, you are unlikely to have much success in Ka-band.
Ka-band requires very high precision reflectors, and any 8-piece 1.8m reflector will requiere extreme adjustment to perform.
Ku-band is better, and C-band easiest.
Is the dish a solid reflector (steel, alu), or is it a mesh-style dish?
In the latter case, it's really only for C-band.
If it's a 6-petal job with an integrated bracket and mount, then it is really best suited for C-band (it's probably a Jonsa steel dish, see elsewhere on this site).
But ... it could be something else... any info or even pictures would be extremely helpful before we start discussing possible sat reception... :)

Yes, but if it's Ku-band, OP would get same performance from an 80cm offset-dish on an H2H motor, so it depends on what OP is looking for...

It's a solid one.
Certainly from china.
I have two possible position in my garden, one with the full arc but on the front of the house and i'm not sure that my boss ( wife) accept it and the other one with full east arc and only to 22 West...

For Ku i have my 1m20 Channel Master and a place to cover the full arc.
Ka is just an option at this time.

Than you better forget about Ka-band on your new 1.8m Jonsa-type dish. It is easier to deal with Ka-band on your CM1.2m.

Ok. If it's a Jonsa-1.8, dish, then you will get better Ku-band performance from your CM120.
So keep the CM for Ku, and use the Jonsa for Ka (get a good price first, though. these things are hard to get rid of!)
If the Jonsa has a Polar Mount, then get a good C-band LNB, never mind side-loading, and get the most of C-band from that dish....

Sorry, i must have been distracted there for a minute. I of course mean use jonsa for C. It is not suitable for Ka.

I got other stuff like the foot for the antenna, some feed horn for 1m20 channel master, a double lnb antenna and an old antenna for TDF1 ...

IMG_1729.jpg

this is the 3 manual find in the box.

now it will take some time before the installation.
i will have the keys of my new house in 3 month and installation will be in 5...
Before this one i will start with the channel master and a fixe dish for FRANSAT and FREESAT.

Aston have (as far as I can tell) never made satellite dishes.

They were badging satellite receiver equipment, collaborated making PCMCIA modules back in the late 90's for supply into France, and did provide one of the few digital receivers with twin tuners.

That polarmount diagram looks very familiar......

1: That's definitely not a Jonsa tin-dish. Much of what has been written above does not necessarily apply.
2: The dish in the second picture (car booth) is a Visiosat multi-focus, and the feedhorn + LNB assembly in front is a CM. Which part is the Aston one?
3: According to the diagrams, you have a 120 or 140 dish with an extender kit. Nothing wrong with that, just needs extra care when assembling to attain performance.

So, looking forward to the results you achieve - it's definitely a rare species of dish you have...
Good luck!

no time today to take measurements but 1m40 or 1m50 seems closer to reality.
More pictures tomorrow !

Ok now more pictures of the feet, actuator arm clearely from US and LNB and feedhorn from this picking

IMG_1734.jpgIMG_1733.jpgIMG_1735.jpgIMG_1736.jpgIMG_1738.jpgIMG_1739.jpgIMG_1740.jpg

The Feed horm sold with the antenna is for Ku but it will be not a probleme to put a C band one.

My 24" actuator will be to small for this big girl so i will use a 36" one.

Next step i will share pdf of all documents
