Hi...got a few querstions here

What size dish do you think I will need to pick up Arabsat in Birmingham, Uk? I have been told 90cm, 1m & 1.1m so I am a bit confused on which one to go for.

Also will a 1.1m dish be safe if it is mounted on a 2m pole to look over the roofline of my house? Will it be stable when the wind is blowing? What fixing brackets/pole would you recommend? At the moment my sky dish sits on a pole just above the guttering looking over my roof.

Finally just so I can work out cabling where does the motor take it's power from adn what kind of cable is used to supply power to it.

Thanks in advance.

Ive had a look for 26E this morning. An 80 cm is barely adequate here in south Scotland. Now downlink powers are similar in Brum as they are here in haggisland, so your results should be similar. For decent 24/7 reception of all tp's (Ive got 3 or 4 missing) you will probably need a 1m

i get quite good reception here in west yorkshire with 90cm dish so would say the 1.1m dish will be more than enough

if your wanting the mbc channels then i think you might need an even bigger dish as they seem to have there own footprint

1.1m motorised setup confirms what I was told by someone else so that is what I will have to get.

This is how my sky dish is mounted (pics below). Do you think I can remove the sky dish and use the same brackets and pole? Or will I need a stronger pole like a scaffolding one?

All advice appreciated

You will need a scaffold pole and a couple more T&K brackets, plus it will probably need to be moved if you go for a motorised system.

Well in its current location anything West is going to be a headache as the dish will not be able to turn because of the chimney being in the way, BTW the chimney looks to be in urgent need of repair. I would have thought the front of the building would have been more suitable to mount a motorised dish with reasonable arc coverage.

Mounting a dish on the front is not possible due to the trees in front of my house and I actually had the ladder up to repoint the mortar up there but I decided it was a good time to to get some pics as well!! (p.s it's not actually a chimney either)

It'll need to go either a lot higher, or to the right of where it is now.

PS. I disabled some of the image links in your earlier post, as the thread was taking a silly time to load. You can always upload images and the forum sofware will show them as thumbnails, you can resize them all using pixresizer. :)

wod, the top of the trees is about 2ft higher than the gutters on the roof of my house & i don't want such a big dish on the front anyway.

rolf, i see where you mean now. Where those 3 'thingys' are on the roof the pole is going to go between 'thingy' 1 & 2. I've just got to source a 2m scaffold pole now & 3 brackets

Thanks for all the help so far.

p.s sorry about the large pics!
