to have in Europe?

I reckon a 2.4meter dish like Channel Master(Andrew) would be enough for the hardest hardcore user these days....

You have any other idea? maybe a 1.8meter would be enough or even smaller?

You could use the EGIS motor and attach it to, then you get dual-axis movement.

The bigger the better. Many interesting channels only come in with 4m or more round here.

Channel Master are no more anyway, its a name only.

I would love to put up a 3m plus, but unfortunately there is no chance where I am, would be great to pull in some C band programming. :)

I had C-band for a while on my 3m dish 12 years ago, you get bored after a while as it's not much content that is appealing, i had it for AFN on 1West which was FTA at the time, but the dish was too small, i would have needed a 6meter dish which was out of the question at the place i lived.

Also you get to the situation to have C-band or Ku-band on the dish as the Corotor from Chaparral got heavy losses at Ku-band so you end up with Ku-band in the end for best results and skipping C-band for good.....:D

Too bad all the old good mesh dish manufacturers are dead today, it's too much too handle a 4 meter solid dish for private use.

NSS806 is receivable with a 2.6m mesh dish in Western Europe, some transponders are missing.

Here is a german guy who uses a KTI 2.6m dish for NSS806.

Translated:

I had a KTI 1,8m/15K on the NSS806 two years ago, now I use a KTI 2,6m/15K. The signal quality of the transponders is very different.

I wrote in the table i have made for each transponder the quality i get with my Humax 5400 in procent.

With the 2,6m i get 3,5dBi more gain compared to my old KTI 1,8m, the quality approximately is half of what i get with my 2,6m.

The Humax needs at FEC 3/4 at least 18% quality for an error free picture and with a FEC of 5/6 it needs about 22%, with FEC 7/8 it needs about 30%.

Only transponders i have problem receiving are:

3641R CMB
3685L ESPN
3695L Canal6
3718L Fox
3725R Pramer
3758L ESPN
3803R GlobeCast
4021L Colombian mux

Wouldn't bother watching TV if I had a Ukrainian GF to play with!

This satellite has very good content for a large dish user

Lots of racing, usually amateurs on local tracks.

Oops! Would love to get that one. Lot's of South American stuff too, even a local Channel from Fortaleza Brazil!
Wonder how big dish I would need for the c-band reception here in Sweden?!?

One that is big enough to have its own flood-lighting and webcam would be great.

Sadly, only the Nokia 78cm is in use, the 125cm and SKY squiify-dish is in the cellar, and I keep chickening-out buying a 180cm coz I want to move (last five years).

Well if we speak from Europe we should be aware of that the continent goes from Iceland down to Cyprus or from the Canaries to the Ural mountains in Russia. Depending on the interests and location even a 5m would not suffice for some stuff. Study the footprints and you'll see that we are far away from paneuropean coverage. Exceptions are for example the Eutelsat Widebeams. Those should be the standard. This would be my dream so that big dishes would be only for use if anybody is interested in special stuff like C-Band. I know this will never become true so we'll have to live with that what we can afford and have the space for. Others like me have to be without a dish and addicted either to here crappy cable or even worse terrestrial transmissions. Maybe someday IP transmissions will make it available to the lucky ones living in a broadband connection area in subscribing the content one wants to see without any dish and in best quality but most probably more expensive than it is today and maybe restricted depending on which isp-gateway the connection is made from.
