Hi

Can anyone tell me which motor I need for this dish ? I will be initially using with a SS2 PCI Card, then eventually a Dreambox.

Hope you can tell by the image :)

a variety of lnb's (5), dishes (2), diseqc motors (3) and receivers (4).
My Location
East of Cambridge (GB).
If the dish is 1m or less most of the HH motors will suffice.

Sat Critics did a survey and the Motek SG-2100 came out the best of the bunch, whereas others will swear by the Stab motor

A mate of mine got his SG2100 here :-

_http://www.videowinkel.nl/winkels/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=29_44&products_id=40http://www.videowinkel.nl/winkels/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=29_44&products_id=40

Pretty cheap.

I'd go for either one of those, or a STAB 120.

Germany is also very cheap source of sat-gear. Shipping's not too bad, and no additional tax.

Fitting a dish is well within the reach of the half-decent DIYer with enough patience to do plenty of reading up front, and a few hours to spare.

You may not fancy it, but it might seem like more of an option when you find out that a decent professional will charge upwards of £100 to fit a diseqc motor. Cowboys, of course, may charge much less. :)

That site sure seems cheap, will order from them if thats the one I should get.

Looking at my Dish will I need anything else like mounting poles etc ?

How long did your friend have to wait for delivery ?

May even get the Dreambox from them, cheapest I've seen yet.

Cheers for the link.

You will just need a very sturdy vertical pole with enough mechanical clearance for the dish to rotate with clear line-of-sight, however you want to achieve that. Over-engineer if possible.

I would also recommend adding an extra 'U' bolt to clamp your dish the the motor output shaft seeing as you have the extra mounting holes in your dish bracket.

Use the top and bottom holes. Exhaust clamps have been pressed into service on my dish. Take your existing one into your local motor spares shop.

HM-sat.de is where some of us got our Dreamboxes, including myself. No probs. Cheap shipping etc. Mine was £301 delivered with a 120GB drive

STICK

P.S my m8 waited about 5 days for his motor. I waited about the same for my DB.

Sorry, just another thought as I take steps to get motorised. Looking at the picture of my dish, do you think I will have trouble getting Hispasat 30W ?

V. tricky to say. Where is it pointing now, and will it clear the overhanging soffit if it rotates say 60 degrees to the right (viewing from behind the dish)?

Looks like it might be OK, but you have the roofline of the adjacent building to consider. Time to get the compass out methinks.

Hi

Its a 1W at present, the overhanging bit shouldn't interfere as it clears ok (I think). I was thinking more about that house next door.

Cheers

Looks to me that the top of your dish overlaps the gutter.

You need enough clearance for the dish to move from at least 30 deg East to 30 deg west do you have that?

The mount pole has to be EXACTLY vertical - can you guaranteed that?

On the motor side eBay from Germany is, in my opinion, the cheapest and best deal.

Here's another pic which might show better.

I am getting a pro to install so he can sort the mount pole out if needed.

Also going for the German option for the SG2100.

Cheers

Should be OK looking at the picture...

Why not try it yourself?

Plenty of help here.

A little less analogue, and a lot more crap.

As long as the motor you get brings the dish further forward, by about 10cms, then the dish should clear the guttering on all but the most extreme satellites.

Dont hang out too far when adjusting the bolts unless you have a good rope around you, and tied to the armchair and mother in law.

Gameboys right, try it yourself first it's not that hard. Make sure that the vertical pole is 100% vertical on all four sides. If that's correct your nearly there. Leave yourselve 2 days (loads of time) and take your time, don't rush.
And follow the instructions, if any problems contact forum.
Loads of info about this on the forum, and if you do screw up then get the expert in (plan . One more thing even the so called "experts" screw this up from time to time, and charge the earth for it.
Best of Luck.

Thanks for the advice and possible support peeps, appreciated.

I would love to be able to do it myself (especially as all the installers around here want £150), but to say I am useless at any DIY aspect is an understatement. I guess some just have the knack of these things.

Will wait for my motor to arrive and take it from there, meanwhile it may be helpful if you someone could give me the main points of installing a motor onto the dish shown and list any extra parts or tools I may need.

Also what about aligning the dish, will I need a meter or can I get by without one on a motorised setup ?

Bearing in mind I am using a Skystar 2 PCI Card.

Cheers

Almost impossible to do it without a meter unless you can get the TV up to the dish! More so with a motor.

The experts should have all the correct equipment, if you can afford it and they are good - get references - it is worth paying the experts.

To be honest, unless you're confident I'd get the man with the spanners in too.

If you get someone good, it'll save you a lot of grief. What I will say though, is that you should get your SS2 up and running with the plugin BEFORE you have the motor installed (as far as possible), and know how to use it. Don't let the bloke go until you can get at least strong 28.2E and 30W signals on your PC.

It's hassle getting them back sometimes, and he'll possibly know nothing about the Skystar2 setup.
