Hi All
After 10 years my satellite cable is showing signs of wear and tear (cracks in the plastic coating)
I know i need rg6 cable (i think) but have seen others like rg11 and rg58, can someone tell me what the difference is and is there different types of rg6 cable? and which is the best, it will be for a about 25 meter cable run
Many thanks Richard

The RG specifications are very basic descriptions of cables indicating their size and impedance. RG6 will get you some awful cable only suitable hanging picture frames or the very best. Youneed to look at the loss specifications or go for a proper branded cable.

In the UK WF100 or PF100 are the prefered cables but you'll struggle to get them anywhere outside the UK. You can order them from a UK supplier who does mail order perhaps or a friend/relative living in the UK could purchase it for you.

xF100 cables have a solid copper core and copper foil/copper braid outer shield with a foam dielectric. Lesser cables have an alumium sheath. Lesser still are the ones with a very thin braid and bottom of the heap are ones with copper coated steel centre. You might have to compromise with what's available locally.

K290 BE (30dB/100m) PE beige
K290 BR (30dB/100m) PE marron

---------
As you state that this cracked by time.
I understand that the cable is exposed to the sun and PVC
So the damage you mention .

If you want to use PVC cable , a reference of all FTE Maximal copper, can be very good K125 + (28dB/100m), but in 10 years will be like .
K 300 W (28dB/100m) PVC White
302 K (28dB/100m) PVC White (7.5mm diameter warnings)

To avoid problems with the Sun, using PE wire , a reference may be K125N (30dB/100m)

With aluminum mesh :
K290B (28dB/100m) PE Black
K290 BE (30dB/100m) beige PE
K290 BR (30dB/100m) PE Brown
301 K (28dB/100m) PE Black (7.5mm diameter warnings)

In material dealers house Rover , you can find Cable Bieffe also very good, depending on model
CO12A (28dB/100m) PE brown .

If you put PVC cable , you can add a cover currugado tube (the tube used by electricians [ twice ] , the outer sheath is PE) in the part where of the Sun , the tube you cut it with a new cutter and mess inside satellite cable , this tube after 20 years, this as the first day.

PS: Good is not cheap.

C-800ICT
http://www.fanher.es/articulo/C-800ICT-coaxialictalcu.html

http://www.fanher.es/articulo/C-900ICT-coaxialictcu.html
Es un pelin mejor en general y solo pierde 29.82dB/100metros (cobre).
Seguramente tambien sea algo mas caro.

PD: Personalmente prefiero cables mejores.

All cables apply to satellite facilities.:-lol
Not bad, but not to the top, has a loss of 30.12dB/100 meters.
The core wire is 1.02 mm and the outer PVC cover, within 4 years bad and there is no outer casing 10.
From the same dealer, you have C-900ICT
http://www.fanher.es/articulo/C-900ICT-coaxialictcu.html
It is a tad better overall and only lost dB/100 29.82 meters (copper).
Surely it is also something more expensive.

PS: Personally I prefer better cables.
