I'll 'out' myself as a real Dr.Who nerd but as far as a female flying the Tardis, River Song (the Dr's wife) flew it at least once and without the screeching noise. When asked about the lack of noise, I think she accused the Dr. of always leaving the handbrake on....

From experience of flying the bloody things, giving passengers a first person view of the bridge usually keeps the noise down.

I've now deployed a cgi deck experience on all levels, including the dungeons, which saves oxygen (and fuel) getting them to the turbolift.

Have you forgotten about Romana, short for Romanadvoratrelundar?
The female time lord, who flew the tardis, and repaired it, numerous times, when accompanying Doctor Who, (Tom Baker), in the key to time, and afterwards.
If the BBC wanted a female time lord they should have resurrected Romana, she was Doctor Who's equal, and in some cases superior, especially academically.

When my wife heard about the female Doctor her first thought was that the Tardis would now have some nice floral curtains.

I have never watched any of the BBC charity specials.
I have seen most of the early Doctor Who episodes, especially those with Tom Baker, but not much of the later rubbish.

Strangely enough, I'm watching her at the moment in The Invisible Man on Talking Pictures TV

(Whoops, was watching the film on now - thought it was her in that. She'll be in The Invisible Man next on).

BTW, Talking Pictures TV is brilliant for watching old, forgotten films and TV series, almost all British stuff. My kind of channel.

I found the Pat Troughton years on DVD earlier today.

A bit before my time but the first disc shows Deborah in a brown leather jacket, second is her main interview

'Up your passage'

forget the plungers, or the yetis
