Why can't we have upperCASE/capITALISation IN THE headings of the threadS?

It's extremely "irritating" that every Upper Case letter, except the very first letter, in a heading automatically gets changed to lower case!

I know it's probably an attempt to stop people "SHOUTING" in the headings, but it often makes a total mess/nonsense of many of them, and the only way to get it changed is to ask a Staff member to do it - which is time-consuming for them, and probably as irritating to them as it is to us.

I think you should be able to do it yourself. If you make your post and then go to Edit then, as well as being able to edit the body of your text, you should also be able to edit the title. This is the way I do it whenever someone asks about this. The only difference I can think of is that after a certain period of time you lose the right to edit posts which staff don't suffer from.

Try it on this thread.

Now, as to the annoyance of having to DO this I have no answer.

The capitalisation never sticks when I try editing........

Not if you try to do it from the list of posts. You have to click on the thread and then edit the first post.

I will demonstrate...

Just had another thought about something which may stop any non-staff member from editing posts in this area. If this is an area where you can post without logging in then there are restrictions for editing. You need an area like this if you have a problem logging in, for instance.

It's the rampant inverted commas that get me.

It was me - I was demonstrating the principle. Have you looked to see whether you can edit the first post yet? If you can then see if you can edit the title.

You could also have a look at altering the HDMI cable thread title although I think that may now be too old for non-staff to alter. If you can't alter it I'll happily do it for you but I need to know.

I tried and I can't edit anything in the first post, nor in any of mine thereafter - only works for us non-staff for about an hour after a post is first written.

I didn't realise the window of opportunity was so short. I'm not at home at the moment but I'll sort out the HDMI later.
