Hi - I'm scratching my head as to why a TV Receiver(Grundig P37-830) bought in Germany and brought back to Ireland does not work!? There is an autotune function on the set and the Channels seem to be tuned OK but there is no audio? I thought that as PAL is the System used in both Ireland and Germany that there would be no problem?

Any ideas would be appreciated!!

Different PAL systems using different sound frequency offsets.

UK / Ireland = PAL I

Europe = PAL B/G

Somewhere in the menus you should be able to change the sound to PAL - I

Hi! I appreciate your prompt reply! In my research I have just come across PAL I(Ireland) and PAL B/G(Germany) and there was me thinking there just existed NTSC or PAL!

Unfortunately there is no Menu Option on the set to set the audio to PAL I(from PAL B/G). Can this be done by a Grundig repair shop?

Cheers!

You will need to exchange the 5.5MHz filter in the sound section for a 6Mhz one. A TV engineer should be able to do this.

Is there not an option in the manual tuning menu on the Grundig TVs?

AFAIK, no. I worked on a P37 GB model some time ago, slightly different chassis, but the transmission standard is usually set for the country it is destined for, no option to change. Some TV's have the option to change the audio filtering through the menu, but unfortunately this is not the case with these Grundigs.

It's easy enough to substitute by replacement the ceramic filter though, although I haven't done so in one of these sets.
