No, I'm serious. There's this stain I cannot get out my carpet. I tried all sorts of carpet cleaning. Alas, no luck. Yet then I tried shower gel, and it removed the stain.:-doh2

Why you think the carpet cleaner couldn't get the stain out, when the shower gel did? Thanks in advance.:)

Firstly it depends upon what the carpet material is. 80/20 woolen/nylon blend, pure wool, pure nylon (ughhh) or like my main carpets 100% polypropylene. Looks just like wool and yet you can pour full strength bleach on it and not harm it, gloss paint on it and it wipes off.

So back to your any idea of what material/s it is made?

The one stain that many people tend to be unable to get rid of or find difficult to remove is a red wine stain. The best treatment when freshly done is to pour on white wine then sponge off. If the red wine stain becomes dry it becomes very difficult to remove easily and often requires a mild alkaline solution.

So what was your stain any idea?

Depends... if it is fresh then go tell the offending person to bleed outside. Follow them out adding water to the stained areas, then blot dry, repeat until removed. I have never had to remove dried blood as I tend to take people outside first before allowing them to bleed so I had to look this one up. As it turns out it is almost the same as for fresh.
If dry soak bloodstain out of carpet with cold water to which salt has been added, blotting off excess water until stain is removed. Ensure back of carpet is dry, then shampoo. Treat large stains on other furnishings by sponging with biological detergent dissolved in water. Small stains can be treated with a paste of salt and cornflour, or salt and starch, left to dry, then brushed off.

The advice on these pages is given in good faith but it is made clear these remedies are undertaken at your own risk. No responsibility can be taken as regards their results or any consequences relating to their use.

I've seen it suggested that shower gel can be used on perspiration stains coz the stains contain protein and so is better suited

Mix one teaspoon of a neutral detergent (a mild
detergent containing no alkalies or bleaches) to a cup of
luke-warm water. Blot.

Mix one tablespoon of household ammonia with a half-
cup of water. Blot.

Sponge with clean water. Blot.
