The very short answer to that is No, you need a Sky digibox to watch Sky.

No, unfortunately the Sky signal can only be decrypted by the Sky digibox with an official Sky viewing card.

It has been shown that sky digital can be decoded without a sky card with one or two provisos. currently this method is very processor intensive, unreliable and required access to a valid card in the authorisation loop, so is at present effectively a mathmatical problem. Until a generic, very fast dsp becomes available, it will remain in the bounds of quad processor systems. I'd rather pay the $20/month

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 01-May-02 AT 10:26 AM (GMT)]Sorry Sciros, you say that Sky can be decoded without a card, but then later say that it needs to be in the authorisation loop, surely that defeats the object. Or are you saying that it can be done without a Sky digibox? For those who are perhaps not so au fait with all of the acronyms, DSP I presumes equates to Digital Signal Processor. :)

Yes Willy, occasionally they send out the PPV channels unencrypted, but only for short periods.

A little less analogue, and a lot more crap.

Usually when its raining in West London

Apparently the encryption system falls over on earlier receivers, so removing the Videoguard scrambling stops the phone lines from lighting up if theres an important event on

Thats rather outside the remit of this forum, but if you put your model name into google, yuo will find all sorts of info across theweb.

Just as an update, I understand that you can now view Sky channels on a suitable CI receiver fitted with a "Dragon" CAM and a valid Sky card. How long this happy situation will last is anybody's guess.
