You should be able to, I presume that this is a slave disk?

You can also format a drive by clicking on it in My Computer.

You could always create recovery disk and format from that.
Is this for an upgrade to Pro? I have both CDs, the PC came with home but I have not had the courage to do it. Home seems to work fine for most purposes including a small network.

If you do upgrade, let us all know how you get on!

Many thanks rolfw/meldrew for the info.

I will formate the harddisk first, and upgrade to XP pro,yes XP home working

fine, but I dont have the CD for home, that is why I must install XP pro after

formating the harddisk.

Thanks

Just for the record the only difference between Home and Pro is the networking facility of Pro :)

Make your Cd drive the first boot device in the bios, Save & exit, it will run setup of XP pro on boot up.
Choose format when asked, it will continue to install after formatting

Also a point to note is, the XP Pro disk will format the drive as part of the installation, you can do the whole thing in one operation.

Doesn't XP require a previous copy of Windows in order to install?
