Computer specs
self build computer:
Asus P8H61-I LX ITX motherboard bought very cheap years ago
2x4gb ram when started
250gb ssd
old case which was lying around not doing much
Info
This one has been put together very cheaply from assorted cast off bits. The psu is new as is the ssd in it and the mobo is second hand. The parts have been installed into a beast of a case - its 20 years old & originally had the first computer I ever bought in it - it had Win98 on it when purchased! The case was gutted & everything has been replaced. This one will be my Eumetcast computer when I get around to finishing the cabling off & doing the software install.
Verdict
Win10 kept halting mid install. This was finally tracked down to a faulty ram chip, so the wonky one was binned & its curently running 1x4gb ram. As a clean install on a new ssd no problems were encountered during the install. Win10 Home activated from a Win7 Home key off a scrapped machine.
Total cost
psu - about £30 delivered
ssd - £30 delivered
mobo - a few ££ - Ive forgotten how much it was, but it was peanuts
case - cast off I had lying around
Win7Home COA - nil - it came off a scrapped machine
