Version 1809 ("Redstone") of Win 10 was, ahem, re-released yesterday after an October launch debacle when early adopters discovered all their personal files disappeared!

Apparently Microsoft relaxed their usual testing protocols, and paid the price.

Anyhow, I am currently in the process of updating. I may be gone some time ......

No Audio.

Had this issue once before, but can't recall the fix.

On my test pc am staying on 1803 (heavily cleaned for trash and bloat, zero sending of data to Great White Father in Redmond, etc). Update on that one went well, kb's from update catalog, os WU only allowed to update defender. As always, a Reflect disk image the 1st step.
WIll not touch 1809 ftm, first letting MS' latest experiments afflict the unpaid labrats for a while.

btw, nice to see someone not afraid to speak out > Microsoft finally re-releases the smelly turd that is Windows 10 October 2018 Update

What ever the problems with the first update, and update still has cause some PC's in my area to loose the files, this has cause a bit of an increase in revenue for me as I have to try and fix and find all the lost stuff.

I had two go down, one on Tuesday and the other yesterday, all due to some sort of update.

Someone remind me again....what exactly is "Windows"? I have them in the walls of my house to let in light - do I need to update them?

^^^ Yes, you need to contact Microsoft and get updated ones. They supply their special type of window, from which they can look into, and gather documentation about, everything going on in your life :O)

Microsoft collects up to 25,000 types of Office events, data which is made available to up to 30 engineering teams.
Windows 10 is known to collect up to 1,200 event types, data that is shared with up to only 10 engineering teams.

About 1809 re-release, seems it got less gremlins this time.

Not so much of a lottery this time, mostly important security updates. Did my 1803 & 8.1 laptops (using MS update catalog).
As always, Reflect disk image is 1st step of any update\upgrade = any sign of trouble > back in action in 5 minutes.

The point with the Computerworld article above is to remember to be careful, one never knows which particular pc config\setup is next in line to get hit by some MS goof, ref. the long lasting 1809 debacle.

An overview of the kb's> Microsoft releases Windows 10 builds 17763.194, 17134.471 - here's what's new

@4wd - Shutup10 is already installed here on a couple of m/cs, but it can sometimes be reset by the W10 updates - so you/we/I need to recheck regularly !
