It would help someone to reply if they knew which O/S you are currently using as different systems use different methods. Is it W98SE, Windows 2000 or Windows XP???
BTW, I assume you are referring to the one's inviting you to meet some nubile student who wishes to display her assets for you

The easy alternative is to stop using it, what do you actually use it for?

I think he means the annoying popups that can appear if certain services are set to automatic instead of manual but he didn't hang around long enough for an answer cos I no not get annoying popups with Windows Messenger but I did get annoying messages when certain services were on automatic not manual which I solved by going to MS website

If its the xp Messenger, you can permanently disable it at a services level. Its in the control panel - admin tools - services.

BE CAREFUL what you change in here!

Take Analoguesats advice but just for the record I use W2K and have permanently disabled messenger in the quoted location. it does stop all the unwanted network messages being sent out by network administrator and Alerter services the latter being used by lots of companies to drum up business as it were.....

Many people use it for MSN contact, I've permanently disabled both windows and MSN Messenger and use Trillian for MSN etc.

I use MSN messenger even with messenger in services disabled in services. They have the same name but are different services. Messenger in services is just for net admin purposes. I am now logged in to MSN messenger and messenger in services is still disabled. Am I confusing anyone???
