Haven’t tried it myself yet, but if you haven’t already done it (or solved the problem) I would look at the new Windows firewall thingy and try to disable it completely while you test your connection.

Well it seems no one else had this problem, so I tried again today and everything seems to have downloaded o.k.
Did read that Windows Firewall would operate by default, but that was not the case today.
If anybody does have the same problem (cannot get on the internet after download)
Go to Control Panel, then Windows Security Centre, and click on Windows Firewall and switch the little monkey off. :-band

Purely for research purposes, which version of the beta did you use?
I'm looking for a slick solution b4 I bite the bullet. Were you using a 'genned' key or an original blacklisted key? (...just for research purposes...)

Come on Jimbo go for it, in fact it was you who told me I had nothing to fear from Microsoft downloads.

As for legit XP keys mine are, but my Internet access was still blocked the first time. :)

It is certainly a large download Rolf, much better off with the CD which PC World should be giving away now.
I went to my local store yesterday, and of course they said tomorrow !

according to the technology man on lbc radio last night who is on five live and sky tv etc, when a person called in with a problem after downloading the service pack 2 his reply was yes you and the other 10% who have had many problems over a wide area after downloading it,i know microsoft have patches within there packs that are for there benefit and not yours and my advise is if you were ok before this service pack came out then hang tough for a while and see what happens overall, some people have been complaining of a noticeable slowdown in there pc etc.

i dont personally no much and certainly wont be downloading it yet until i get more feedback over this service pack, and why should i when i have no problems at the moment etc.in my ears ten percent of people are having problems is to much for my liking and not all the same problems.

I've definitely decided against it, I have a lot of protection on my PCs and certainly do not want to compromise performance.

Wait  according to informed sources there are to be two versions. One specifically for XP users who don't have SP1. A kind of Bill Gates temporary truce. As they say, what use is there in filling a gap and leaving a bloody great big hole ;)

I for one will definately be patient and wait. No infections in the last 5 years. I have AVG 6. AdaWare and Spybot plus Kerio firewall - all working perfectly well together. Poetry in motion (-|-)

I like the Spybot S&D registry checking function, hadn't used it before, but it tells you if any program tries to make a registry change or entry.
