Have just got DB 7000s and am trying to set up wireless network.
Currently have Netgear DG834G wireless adsl modem firewall router.
My question is do I need a bridge or can I use cross over cable to my pc to get started and still network to the internet using my pc as the bridge?
Or do I need a bridge and if so do I use cross over cable or normal cat5 cable if I have to use a bridge?
Many Thanks for your info so far!!!

If you connect the Dreambox to your PC, then you need a crossover CAT5 cable. If you connect the Dreambox directly to your router (the neater way) then a standard CAT5 cable is required. You do not need the wireless bridge if you're using cable. If it grabs you, then you can always upgrade to wireless later.

NP. The crossover cable is a good backup anyhow (and a LOT faster!) :D

Ok So with wireless broadband via router, Can I also use cross over cable to PC and still connect DB to internet for updates using PC as a path or can I just download EMU and keys and then send to DB from a file on the PC?
Sorry stupid is as stupid does!!!

Yes

Yes!

Either and both. Anything connected to the IP network can hop across the network and out through the gateway as if it were connected directly. You can also FTP stuff from your PC to the Dreambox if you have files resident on your PC.

With your wireless router and your Dreambox cabled to your PC, the connection from your Dreambox to the Internet will only be as fast as the slowest part of the connection, i.e. the wireless link between your PC and the router. Not a problem for such small files though. :)

Some routers (including wireless) also have an RJ45 socket that would allow direct connection of your Dreambox to the router, but in some cases this would be a hub-uplink port, and so may also need a crossover cable as opposed to a straight patch cable!

Think you're better connecting to your PC.

At least you have a fast connection between your Dreambox and PC if you want to copy movies backwards and forwards ...
