Recently in the last week I had a visit from a woodpecker pecking my dish in the early mornings about 5 or 6AM when i am at sleep.

This morning the dumb bird was pecking my dish again, i could hear it clearly.

What can be done to prevent this? i don't really understand why he all of the sudden likes to come to my place.

As i have my dish on the balcony outside my bedroom it really aggrevates me.

You could put a picture of an owl or hawk on it. :)

Or better still, stick one of these on top of your dish.:)

Usually the bird will stand on the LNB support arm, make it uncomfortable for him by attaching wires that point upwards. You can use normal steel or copper wire. In many places you can see it where they have them against pigeons

If the woody is standing on the lnb arm, put some long zip ties around the arm with the pointy excess bit pointing upwads. (They dont like it up 'em Mr mainwaring :D

Maybe you could try putting a small tearing of a plastic bag on the dish, on the arm maybe?. We do it at the house here to stop birds nesting in the corner of the roof.

I will catch him one morning, i just need to be fast.

As my dish is made of metal you can understand the echo sound the woodpecker is making.

I have not really catched him to see where he is pecking on the dish.

Christ, i don't want small tiny holes in the whole dish surface.

Now that i sold my second Fibo dish i don't have any spare either if that is the case.

I don't think he can make holes in a metal dish. And he is not trying to make holes in it. I reckon he just likes the sound it makes...

I get woodpeckers in my garden, none of them have taken any interest in the dishes. Shame as with several different sized dishes they could make some interesting percussion noises!

I got a pair of woodpeckers in my garden, they are really nice looking birds. I occasionally spot them pecking at the cut wood I have at the back, I think they are trying to locate insects that way. Maybe they are looking for worms in the dish? Are they telling you your dish is rotten?? Do you watch a lot of Discovery??

He visited me this morning again, same time as all other days.

He is sitting on the back of the dish and pecking in the metal.

I know this is annoying to you, Likvid, but I cannot but find this very ammusing...:)
Do you think you could get a picture of him? I would love to see it, a Woodpecker picking on a metal dish...this picture would probably go round the world and end up in Wavy's joke corner.

Maybe he is using the dish to transmit messages to other woodpeckers? Possibly morse code...

I remember last spring where a myopic woodpecker was trying to peck into the side of a house.....with the cladding on the outside, it was making quite a racket.

Thankfully, it was not my house :)
