for ease of long term use you need to think about allowing the DB to be permanently connected to the Internet.

If you do this it will be easier to update the DB on a ongoing basis in terms of new Cams and new Keys.

In preparation for tommorrow download dreambox control Center from this link.
http://www.digital-sat.tv/dreambox/dbsoft.htm

Also,

Go into motor setup and make a note of the postion numbers that you have your satelites stored at.

important ones will be 1w Thor 19.2 Astra and 13.0E Hotbird, there are others but I use these sats mostly.

also check the little book that you got with you H-H motor as I think you may find in the back pages a complete listing of all satelites and what positions they are stored in the motor memory.

Once the new Lucien image is blown onto the DB we need to think about how we will update the cams and keys which is where the DB connecting directly to the internet is a real advantage as its a matter of three or four remote control button presses to update.

I had the same problem with PC upstairs and DB in the lounge, so I installed a wireless link!

Don't let this sidetrack you now, but when it's all working, it might be something you want to consider. Read all about it in the sticky thread at the top of this section.

Nice one.

I would personally do the flash a different way to most of the other folks here (I use the 'root.cramfs' method), so I'll stay out of that one, but you'd do well now to get a decent FTP client, and play with that. You can log-in to the Dreambox and view/modify the content. I like WS_FTP V9.0 which you can get by searching for FOSI on Google.

If you do nothing else, read Klona's guide to the Dreambox. It's very well written, and very clear. Find the latest version here :-

You can get your long and lat from streetmap.co.uk via your postcode.

Read Klona to get a feel for the different flashing methods.

Make a note of the satelite positions before you go any further!!!

Now flash erase that sucker.

Which means,

Power down the DB - unplug the mains cable for 30secs.
Plug in the mains cable and hold in the channel up button at the same time.

after a few seconds you will see flash erase displayed on screen - the box will now act as new so you will have to key in the standard setting like country and time zone etc, multisat etc.

You will need to go into the motor setup and key in some of the satelite settings
i.e position 1 = Thor 1 W etc etc.

then its time for a sat scan.

another program to download in the meantime is,
http://www.satellites.co.uk/php-bin/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=923

point the program to this site.
http://byksat.kabel1.cz/dreambox/SoftCam.Key

You will use this to update the keys on the DB once you are up and running.

I have to be honest with you - you are about to hit the painful and scary point of configuring the DB but hang in there keep posting and read other posts.

Hi Zanders
When I downloaded this image, I just went into the Hydra control centre (green Button) and just downloaded the keys (Marys) then downloaded newcamd, they were all there in the download centre.

I agree,

This is how I download and update my keys, but as I understand red devils setup his DB is plugged into his PC and not directly to the Net.

Have you keyed in anything within the motor setup?

Oh I thought he was networking with the db. I think he should do a manual scan for hotbird 13e and see if he clears any multivisions/tps, dont think his motor is correctly set up (always problems here) as with previous db newbies (me included)
