technically people if i were to purchase a prepaid itv digital set top box and terminate my contract after the 12 months would they request the set top box back and at what measures would they go to , to get the set top box back , i.e. would they send out a courier to pick it up.

Certainly in most cases they send a company round to collect the out of contract boxes. It may however be academic in the near future, particularly if they pull the plug (don't think that they will, but you never know). If they were to pull the plug, the administrators could well offer settlement deals on the existing boxes, partly as a recompense to the prepay customers.

As to what lengths they would go to if you refused to return the box,who knows? A CCJ however does nobody any good.
