Writing a plugin- hard?

Hello,

how hard is it to write DD plugins? Are there any guides or existing plugins that can be used as a template? e.g. the key updater.

My idea is to write a plugin that will either login and download the Spartan key file, from the DB? Or would it be easier to write a batch file or .vbs file and then use Windows Task Scheduler to run the .bat or .vbs daily to get the Spartan file onto my PC, unzip it and then FTP the keys onto the DB?

Sensible comments, ideas, suggestions?

Now I've written it, using Task Scheduler seems the easier option.....

But I'd like to know also. I grabbed the source etc. but the nifoz on plugins wasn't great ... I would like to put together:

1. A channel scanner, much like a radio scanner but scanning for feeds
2. Feeds or new channel hunter (can't get FeedsHunter plugin to work ...)
3. Auto-update satellites.xml eg nightly
4. Auto-satellite scan/transponder scan eg. first thing in the morning

Anyone know of plugins that already do this? Or other ways, shells script etc?

There are plugins for 3. and 4. I know, but they dont have automated options that I know of ...

Shell scripts could be used to run the programs but wouldn't be the programs themselves? If they plugins were on the DB it wouldn't necessarily need to be any more automated than running a script when the DB was switched on (green light).
