Sky plus Q Dish with quad LNB
My Location
Cheshire (North West) UK
Hi
I am new to this Forum so please bear with me, I have recently cancelled my Sky subscription to opt for Freesat.
I have removed my sky plus Q LNB and replaced it with a quad LNB as I want to add it to another room, I have not moved or adjusted the Sky Dish just the skew on the new LNB and connected it to my Samsung UHD TV which has Freesat built in, after some fiddling with the TV tuning etc we have Freesat.
The problem I have is that I’m getting regional news etc for London and I am in Cheshire North West, does anyone here know what I need to do in order to rectify this, the region on the TV is correct but I think it’s the Satellite Dish that needs adjusting, any help would be appreciated.

Freesat via your TV is unlikely to give you your regional news unless you do live in London as your TV probably does not allow you to input your postcode and achieve the correct transmission you will probably require a Freesat receiver in order achieve that or an old sky receiver may do the same.

Welcome to the forum.

In a true Freesat receiver the postcode, which gives the regionalisation information, is inputted as part of the installation process. So, try doing a complete installation of Freesat from the menu. Just updating the channels will not be enough.

I don't know the TV so it's possible that it isn't a true Freesat receiver on board.

The satellite dish will be aimed at 28.2 east you will get all ITV regions from this location so no need to move the dish,
If at all possible you need to change your region post code on the TV,

I have a 10 year old Sony with FreeSat when I put in the post code for my location in Essex I get Meridian ITV-1 HD for Kent on FreeSat Ch-111 :confused

So to work around this I can change the post code so that I can get either ITV-1 Anglia HD or ITV-1HD London or Scottish ITV-1 HD by just changing the post code.

Both our LG and Samsung asked for postcodes on the initial Freesat installation so you may have to look for a factory reset or first time installation option in the menu.

In case you've not seen it before switch to satellite mode and tune in to 12441V for UHD demo's.
Also bare in mind that while Channel 4 HD is FTA on 28E it is not available on Freesat, I've yet to find a TV that will allow extra channels to be manually added in Freesat mode.

Back in the day Southern/TVS/Meridian used to cover the southern fringes of Essex in their news coverage, I assumed this was down to the coastal areas being best served by Bluebell Hill on the North Downs.

Not all the ITV sub regions transmit in HD (yet). Until fairly recently Border Scotland got Granada HD - so our "local" news was from 200 miles away!

Thank you for your reply, my TV SAMSUNG - UE55NU8000TXXU with built in twin satellite tuner asked for post code during Freesat setup but, would not accept my post code and kept saying "Invalid postcode", after many attempts with various post codes from different area's which it still would not accept, it eventually moved to the next step tuning without postcode which, I thought was a bit odd. In the end it works but wrong regional TV (news & weather etc).
We are planning on buying a Humax (shortly) as we need a recording medium anyway so, a Freesat recorder later today.

I will let you know how we go on.

Thanks

Thanks Paul, my TV is a SAMSUNG - UE55NU8000TXXU with built in twin satellite tuner, I have tried a full installation a few times now from the menu but still the same, we're going to get a Humax Freesat recoder so, hoping that will work.

Will keep you posted.

Thanks

According to what I've read up it is a Freesat TV so should accept a valid postcode. I presume that you've tried various ways of your own postcode but can I suggest you try one from the centre of Chester - CH1 1AA.

It's a valid code so should be accepted. Make sure that if there's an option for lower case letters that you use upper case and that you put the space in. This space can be very important for some systems. And don't confuse letters with numbers, those are two number "1"s not lower case letter "l"s.

Hi Paul
Yes I have tried every possible way with my own (and a few others) post code, upper case lower case with/without space even tried with just the first half of the post code, I have also been very thorough with the numbers/letters. Thanks for providing the Chester post code which I have also tried in various formats and still the same result (Invalid postcode entered. Continue searching for channels?).

As is a full reset to factory conditions if bought as a second hand device.

Its a brand new TV we purchased in February.

As I mentioned the other day we bought a Humax HDR-1100S (Freesat Recorder) on Saturday A, because we need a recorder and B, in the hope it would cure this regional issue.

Guess what, my day went from bad to worse.

Plugged everything in the right order, powered the TV down and disconnected the twin satellite cables and connected them to the brand new Humax, powered it all up and started the setup to find that the signal test was showing no signal form the LNB check the connections etc, disconnected and went through the setup procedure several times and still the same, really frustrated with this.

Connected back to the TV's Freesat receiver and all was still working ok again, tried the Humax again and no signal. I have returned it to Curry's as it must have been faulty but they did not have any more in stock.

Thanks to all of you for your replies and very helpful suggestions, the show is not over yet and I will keep you posted.

Thanks

Sorry to hear that, yes I have come across this attitude before "The numpties principle" rather than test it properly they assume the person returning did not know what he/she was doing and put it back in stock, even though it was not actually working in the first place. Having said that please be aware that sometimes it is the central core of the cable you are offering up to the STB that is 1mm too short and this is down to design differences nothing else, it is certainly worth checking before returning.

Also have had the odd Freesat receiver which didn't like certain Sky issue quad LNBs.

They didn't even want to know the details of the fault, no quibble refund is a good thing from the consumers point but, they should log all faults. Not sure if I'm allowed to say the name of the retailer here but it's one of the big names in AV, IT & Mobiles and it was the best price too, I'll have to go to another store for one as I don't want to end up with the same one again.

The point you made about the central core is a very valid one and I did consider at the time if the connections were the issue but as they were good quality sky ones that seemed to be crimped on rather than screwed on and, they worked perfectly well with the TV's STB I left them, of course if I have the same issue with the next one I will be changing the plugs.

It's not a SKY issue LNB, I replaced the the Sky Q plus LNB with a quad LNB I got from a famous auction site about 15 quid.
I'll have to wait until I buy another Receiver/Recorder, probably at the weeekend.
