X band ...any point ??

As you guys know ..I get bored easily ..have little patience..and always looking for 'the next project'..

Casually cruising fleabay today I noticed X band LNCs have suddenly come down from the stratosphere to under £200 each ..
Still pricey I know ..but not out of my price range if there were a point to owning one.
I know there is an amateur TV band in this region ..but what else ?
Obviously a different kind of dish insallation would be needed ...not one that tracked the arc but up/down ...left/right steering for terrestrial based dxing...
..and of course Id be limited to about 180 degrees anyway from my South facing backyard.
Since I would have obstructions to Amateur TV ....I was thinking more about signals from the arc..?
So just thinking out loud atm ..
and inviting any comments or discussion on the 10ghz band ..

Probably there will be satellites in lower orbits that use X-band.
But then you'll need up-to-date orbit elements, and soft/hardware to let the dish track the fast-moving satellite.

I meant I wouldn't use an arc tracking system if I went searching for Amateur TV ...as I assume it would be directed more or less parallel to the earths surface ..
...but I'm guessing this would be low power and much like searching for a needle in a haystack..

Don't think there is an amateur band close enough to X-band (7250...7750 MHz), to make use of modified X-band gear?

However X being the latin 10, some radio amateurs want to be "cool-talking" by referring to the 10 GHz amateur band as "X-band"! Maybe that got you confused.

I`m very happy that some guys want to go further and think about next goals they can achieve. That`s very promising as progress can not be stopped!
Well, me and my buddy Peon also think ahead, unfortunately the progress has been stopped by other personal circumstances. Anyway, if Vipersan started the X-band theme here is something from us.
The X band lnbs are as available as Ka band ones. That means to write an email to the right guy prepare to pay double the price what the Ka PLL lnb costs. Bear in mind, that the X band (7.25 - 7.75 GHz) is mostly considered as a "military zone".
The Norsat X1000HAF was delivered to Peon`s place earlier this year (2014), unfortunately all new projects has been temporarily postponed due to personal circumstances and the need to finish all earlier projects. t
Because of those reasons I am not able to provide more details, but I hope you`ll find something useful in the attached documentation or links provided.

Just to add further to this Topic. X-BAND is also used (very much so) in Radar applications - Civil & Military - (for Maritime Control in modern Radars - especially for High Imaging) and Air traffic Control.
These type of Radars had Magnetron output powers in the region of 20Kw ( Continuous or pulsed) and nautical ranges up to 48 Nautical Miles on common Mercantile Ships. I once even came across one with a 96 Nautical range, although at that range almost nothing is picked up unless the Radar burst hits a massive cliff or something as solid and that.

The pro grade units that Peon (aka Onacila) has access to.
The first unit is designed to be used on 1.8 & 2.4m offset antennas and the second has a PF feedhorn designed and machined by Peon. A small adapter will be manufactured in the forthcoming days to be able to use 1 feedhorn for linear and circular setup beacuse polarizer has different size of the input on each end.
