XP Problem

Can anyone help out with this problem. I have just changed computer to new XP
and whereas with my old 98 I could open all download files and use them for my
MR cam, I am now unable to. XP asks me what file I want to open them with, even after unzipping them. Is there a programme on XP I should be using?

Wordpad or notepad open most txt files.
might be worth trying those.
