Do they allow for Ka band you mean ? The SX88+ certainly does anyway for the 4 different bands even, not looked at the others
I think that your TBS5925 has the ST chip set which goes down to 250MHz with Crazycat's streamreader dll. Someone else might confirm it or just try it using "L band" as the LNB type (remember to change streamreader.ini to change the default frequency range). I don't know if which STBs, cover the 250-350MHz range that you'll need for Newsnet. Normally an 18.25GHz LO would give you 19.2-20.2GHz using the standard IF. Best value has go to be the Gilat + cheap 1.2 as shown in John's picture.

This is my mod of the relevant part of streamreader.ini which sets the IF range to 250-2350MHz and sets all LOs below 9500MHz to LO high (C & X band - not needed for Ka)
Code:
;! Change IF range (default 950-2150MHz)
IFStart=250
IFStop=2350
LNBMid=9500
;LNBStk=21000

So just had a msg it is indeed what I need 100% yes ? :-

The tria you asked about is an AN8002.
I have the spec if you need it. The receiver output will downconvert to IF output between 950/1950 mhz
Transmit output nominally 2.5w

I see right so few if any cover this range. I've been offered the AN8002 for £65 plus postage. Trying to get it for £60 inclusive

@sat-tv-fan
4 Replace the crystal with 27MHz one to move the LO to 17280MHz (shifts the IF into the normal band)

Note: options 1-3 put the IF frequency of Newsnet 18557 at 307MHz so you need a tuner that goes that low e.g. TBS 6983/6903.

Also, have a look at @John and my other posts mentioning "Gilat".

Where would I get a 27 MHz crystal ?

.. are you crazy ?, well yes you could be - welcome to the club lol.
Right, we've been talking about Gilat units & dedicated Ka lnb's and feeds etc lately - - send a pic now of exactly what you have bought. Have you any kind of satellite meter ?. We'll get onto the dish after.

Ok it's the one which is confirmed as I quoted earlier from the ebay seller to be a AN8002...It's brand new, I paid incl postage £69.50 ! Yes I have a Freesat v8 sat meter...

I presume it is this Gilat AN8002 Ka band | eBay
Does the seller have a lot of these?
Does the Freesat V8 go below 950MHz?

... when the ODU arrives you will need to do the following mechanical tweeks first :- See pics

Separate the feed / poloriser / ODU from each other.
Put the poloriser (middle bit) in a cupboard as not needed for Newsnet linear signals.
The scalar feed has to now be married up to the opening on the ODU.
As the above is not a standard Gilat configuration it means that 4 more holes have to be drilled in the feed output flange with a good degree of accuracy so that the feed circular throat matches identically up to the ODU front throat opening.
You then need to make a 40mm collar to fit over the feed so as to fit onto the dish lnb holder - - when you have done the other bits first i will go on to show you what i did to make the collar.
What's been detailed above is the very easiest approach to doing the mechanical feed alteration but does not give you any adjustment for tweeking the focal point of the feed - it gets you more or less right but unable to tweek back and forth for max.
....................................................................................................................................................................................................
s-band Graham has done more work on these 8002 ODU's both electronically & mechanical as he's the guru on these things, so need to ask you Graham- will the 8002 see 18.556 in bog standard untouched condition ? - - just trying to keep the operation as simple as possible at the moment.

John,

Nice, they are very clear pictures presenting the transplant of the head onto the body with surgical precision. Did you use a bench drill for accuracy with the holes or was it a "hand job" ?
