Check this beauty out, always loved this chassis/tube. Made in the UK too.
One of the best 14" Portables made imho, owned a couple in the past and wish i'd kept them.
Was keeping an eye out for one on eBay but never any local.

Can't wait to feed it an analogue source, or use it as a monitor for a vintage/retro computer.

Cost me £5 from the British Heart Foundation with a 6 month warranty :-rofl2
My friend picked up a LCD PC monitor for £1!

Interestingly the lag on my Samsung Professional Monitor on the wall is more noticeable than I expected compared to a CRT on the same source.
Ignore the lines on the CRT, that's just down to the 50hz and my phone camera.

Yes, they were great sets. Repaired many when they did eventually go wrong.

I didn’t realise the charity shops could still sell these!

I seem to remember a few years ago around the time of the switchover, seeing a couple of old CRTs outside the front of one of the charity shops, along with a note saying it was free as they couldn’t sell it as an analogue only TV, but they would accept a donation instead.

I think you are asking a bit much expecting a charity shop volunteer to know and understand the difference between analogue and digital

If the shop has a licence to sell electrical goods, and the donation is PAT tested (and passes), then it can be put in the window.

Yes to be fair I was quite surprised at the time to see it mentioned!

I guess on the other hand though a few years back the switchover would have been fresh in more people's minds. I just wonder if they were specifically told something (whether correct or not) by a head office somewhere maybe.

The irony was, he asked if I wanted to see it working.

I thought ok, I know this set quite well and snow/osd will tell me straight away about convergence issues or a weak tube.

I joked and said you won't tune a picture in, as analogue is all off. But to my surprise it tuned in to a TV station and the picture was great.

Turns out its a feed from a freeview box there going in to a modulator and distribution system from what I could see.

Yes and recent PAT test with a 6 month warranty thrown in.

Ref the analogue/digital changeover, we have a cabled distribution system for the analogue o/p from the Sky DRX895 box, and the most "important" Rx on the system is the one in the kitchen so SWMBO can watch Sky whilst ironing/cooking etc. A few years ago, I needed to replace the small portable there, and I had great difficulty in finding an LED one with an analogue i/p - not a great set, but it does the job.

Raises another question though - what to buy/do if that one goes t*t's up?

A few of my customers still use the AV input of a VCR to distribute their satellite signals around their properties, there is a seemingly endless number of them out there, with non functional playback of the tapes themselves, but do the job of sending analogue content up to the loft amplifier.

Casting from one device to another is unlikely to be a complete solution when analogue RF modulators are all in landfill.

One can pull the modulator out of an old VCR and use a power supply on it, if you don't want a huge VCR stuck somewhere.
Also the same with some old sat boxes and vintage micro computers, often the Modulator is in a RF Can or the Tuner.

Binned my analogue modulators some time back in favour of digital ones, the price has come down no end nowadays.

Technomate and Edison seem to be the cheapest. Take a look on Amazon, type 'HD modulator'
I have the Technomate ones, they have built in adjustable attenuation, local LCN adjustment and cover UHF channels 21-69. I use an HDMI splitter To feed the Lounge TV and the other split feeds the modulator which in turn feeds the loftbox for distribution around the house. You have to watch the same channel as the lounge but in turn you get a HD picture on your other TV's with stereo sound.
There were some lipsync issues originally but this has been corrected with a firmware update.

Had a look at WoS for those modulators - NOT cheap @around £129 each! Think I'll stick with my analogue dist system until the DRX 895 fails (or Sky "turns it off") - then again, I still have that "Lidl" 895 on the shelf to replace it - that kitchen TV fails

Not sure if anyone else has had the issue, but I find that dishes (especially heavy ones) being adjusted for azimuth (compass direction) have a tendency to slip down the mounting pole/mast.

However, for most dishes that is easily solved by fitting a "jubilee clip" (or 2 connected in series for big diameter poles) around the pole immediately below the mount - Simples! :)

In that context, Lidl have a cheap set for £2.99 ATM if you don't have any.

I usually use an exhaust clamp to provide a lower resting area. It also makes life easier when aligning a dish for the first time when you're swinging from east to west.

Yes, essential for my SMW mount, as the U-bolts misaligned when the mount slid down after unbolting them for adjustment. It is hard to straighten them both up for subsequent tightening (needed two hands, but one was clinging to the pole :(

Jaeger 1224 and similar sit on the top of the pole of course.

Could you not just use one of these... Scart to HDMI adapter, gets fairly good reviews on Amazon.
