So it seems, clever people these Chinese.

However, as they are quite clear to point out the LNB is specially for the 4.5GHz to 4.8GHz range as found on 65W I think it safe to assume that the LNB is for that range and they have made an error in other parts of the description, possibly due to copy/paste errors?

They do, here is a dual band C band LNB that covers the range 3.4GHz to 4.8GHz in two bands.

This LNB has a typical gain of 65dB with Noise Figure less than 0.5dB without frontal isolator.

.. and depending on how much Customs duties etc we get screwed for comes out in the £650 - £700 area .

Update:

It seems the price of $16 was for 100 units. I got a quote for 10 units delivered to the UK by DHL for $42.70c per unit, approximately equivalent to £33 per LNB excluding customs and taxes.

C-band is dying on its feet. Part of the lower C-band spectrum used in India is to be handed over to Wimax & Stateside the operators are losing the battle to be forced to vacate large chunks of their spectrum so it can be handed over to the mobile companies.

Well lets be honest - C-band has never been particularly popular in Europe simply because of the dish sizes needed. Apart for us enthusiasts its no real loss in Europe.

I would not be too pessimistic. With regards to the spectrum up to 3.8 GHz you might be right, but still this is extremely used in america and asia. Europe is more used for HUBs and uplinks and then I quote your comments.
My initial question was more related to the frequency band 4.5-4.8 GHz, the planned C-Band. Why is this particular frequency band barely used? There is no wimax-5G there, and is co-primary band with fixed and mobile terrestrial service, but it's FSS planned C-Band.
Anybody has the answer?

There are a number of reasons, partly technical and partly commercial , in the main however

- the LNB required for reception is not standard C band fare so it will not be available except on special order from a manufacturer as per earlier posts
- The need for a broadcaster to use this part of the band would really only be necessary if the existng spectrum becomes overcrowded, unlikely since there are plenty of available slots (and birds able to carry the extra capacity) should there be a requirement.
- improvements in the uplinking chain in the shifting and compressing content frees up space in the more usual 3.7-4.2 GHz.
- I doubt there is a major network that absolutely needs to offer a platform anywhere in the world, two steps away from the standard frequency band.

Its the super extended C-band - looks like only India uses those frequencies regularly.

Is there any reason your location is down as Hawaii but your IP's resolve to Switzerland??
