I've just read the following.

Poles Apart: Polish Government Bans New Wind Farms & All Existing Turbines Gone by 2035

Whilst it was grant/tariffs and bung madness in the late 90's to put wind power onto the UK mainstream energy map (of which the legal wrangles contine over land grab at the time continue), and the govenment has - quite rightly closed the Renewables Obligation in which the consumer was 'obliged' to cover the cost of farms that might never be built, how would removing existing installations and banning new ones solve anything ?

If you think this is not likley to impact on the UK, the newly completed CfD contract auction excludes onshore wind farms from the list of renewable technology. The removal of the feed-in tariffs effectively stops the consumer from having any say in the matter.

Well they will have their work cut out removing the vast numbers up here and Scotland, the hillsides are littered with wind farms as hilly areas are unsuitable for much else, I really cannot see anything changing in my lifetime unless somebody solves the energy crisis with a magic bullet solution

The shareholders have made their money multiple times over from the 20 year fiasco, the energy companies are simply moving the deckchairs around.

Windfarms are great... for people who love 'green energy' but live far away from them.

There's one not too far away from here and I can still hear the loud noise, there's a village right besides it, life on these places used to be calm and silent... now it's not

What we see here is a huge amount of money being spent for very little energy production, and after all, producing and maintaining every each one of those turbines ends not being environmentally friendly after all.

Ross has I think mentioned the pitfalls of windfarm towers before now, plus I am certainly not an advocate but if the infrastructure is already in place (not just the foundations, but the towers and the distribution grid) then surely it would be worth using these until the blades/nacelle fails, and keep the remaining mothballed until better - more efficien/less noisy - technology arrives that can replace it.

I always thought the three blade prop used, at least on the larger structures was a bad idea, but then who am I to argue ?

I'd rather stand underneath a wind turbine than one of those wobbling accidents-waiting-to-happen.

LLL Livermore lit up a 55 watt light bulb with the excess energy produced by one of their experiments, so it's getting better, it will just take time, how long??? Who knows, but once it gets going we will be out of the woods, look how long it took to discover how to make fire.

The only complaint they have about wind farms here is that it takes a toll on the birds.

Fire has always been around, lava, lightning, sunlight on lens material and Flint rockfalls. It is only man that has claimed to have harnessed and then reproduced it , though I'm certain at some point previously fish have said it's not worth the hassle and just grew a better digestive system.

They have considered other designs

The Bordeers is littered with wind farms - hundreds of the bloody things. And planning applications are lodged for new sites every few weeks. The council throws most of them out - then the developers just appeal to the government & more times than not our illustrious leaders overturn the refusal. Dont get me wrong - Im not particularly against wind turbines but its getting beyond a joke now - from every bit of high ground you can see loads of towers glinting in the sunlight in all directions.

Theb first generation that was built are now coming up to replacement time - and the planning cases for the replacements are always for bigger turbines.........
