My Satellite Setup

Hi all, I'm looking at buying this SAT>IP server Kathrein EXIP 418 SAT>IP Server / SAT2IP Converter: Amazon.de: Elektronik plus a wideband LNB to primarily receive free channels from 19.2east on a wireless laptop (i know this server is overkill, but I want it somewhat future proofed)

Does anyone know how much additional latency (delay from live) I can expecting watching sat>ip streams on a laptop vs a normal receiver and TV setup? If anyone could test this i would be most grateful.

How does Sky Q differ from sat>ip? I know Sky were part of the original sat>ip consortium, but they seem quite different. E.g. decryption is done on the main sky q server, whereas with sat>ip it's at the client level (not that this matters to me as only interested in FTA). Also am I correct in thinking Sky Q only allows live streaming to tablets and phones (not PCs)?

Another issue is the universal LNBs which have a LO of 10.41 on SkyQ vs the standard 10.40 everywhere else.

Wideband 40mm LNB with Horizontal/Vertical ports, LO 10.41 GHz (UK)
Wideband 40mm LNB with Horizontal/Vertical ports, LO 10.40 GHz (EU)

Why the difference? Seems crazy. I assume either LNB would work with this sat>ip server, but that the Sky LNB may give incorrect frequencies by 10MHz? does this matter in getting EPG info or anything?

I could also wait for the new Freesat box - assume this will use the Sky LNB so Sky Q users can easily switch, but who knows?

cheers

My Satellite Setup
90cm motorised dishes(98x90)+fixed+multiLNB+24Unicable.
Currently 56 satellites, 61°West to 57°East.

Octagon SF8008 4K Twin, VU+Duo², VU+Ultimo4K.
Recycled as the owner.
My Location

The latency depends on the equipment that converts to IPTV and then the equipment used to view.
In modern equipment / receivers every day less.

That receiver, no idea.
With the VU+Ultimo4K (ARM, Quad Core 1.5GHz) these are the times.
HD satellite channel to IPTV, from 2 to 3 seconds, without modifying parameters (6Mbs the consulted).

The same satellite channel HD to IPTV transcoding (2Mbs and 30fp), from 4 to 5 seconds.
PS: An old PC on cable network.

i have eyetv netstream 4Sat ( both generations) since 2015 and i use them regularly. latency is maybe 1 second but not more than that. it depends on (as Tururu mentioned) on the equipment that converts that signal. Eye tv on mac , DVBviewer on PC, SAT>IP client on vu+ or apps on android and ios works great for me .

thanks both. Is that unicasting or multicasting? I assume multi is better for latency as no buffering (?) Do you have any picture breakup problems over wifi? Also, presumably just the individual channels are sent over IP and not the entire transponder?
