Hello,
I'm evaluating many solutions prior to choose my new dish. In the 1.8m category, Prodelin (CPI) 1184 seems very interesting.
The problem is: which motor? I'm looking for a 2-axis system. I just dropped professional mounting and motors because they are very expensive and too heavy for a common roof installation.
However, I do not want install such antenna on a cheap, not accurate, polar mount. So I ask for any advice regarding a good AZ/EL motorised system that can be controlled by RC2000a or similar. My goal is having total control of the dish (azimuth and elevation) to track inclined orbit satellite, too.
Also, the dish seems offset, but in the datasheet we can read Prime Focus offset.... What it means? Prime focus or offset? Can anyone explain better please? Thank you.

Here, buy this Raven 1.8m Az/El motorised dual axis setup.

If the polar mount is setup correctly it will provide accurate tracking, it also has the elevation actuator to provide adjustment to the elevation.
The dual axis actuators can be controlled by an RC2000A unit.

The 1184 is an offset reflector design.

Are you after C or Ku band reception ?

The 1184 is primarily used in the field for fixed C band uplinking and has a galvanised steel back assembly that would require bearing modification to install actuators.

It has been superseded for some years in the field by the 119X series (with 0.8 illumination) but again this is supplied out of the box as a fixed mount antenna.

I want to receive in Ku band only, not C band. I thought to 1184 because I found a very interesting solution to make the best polarity skew on each satellite. US manufacturer Viking build a rotating feed specifically made for that dish, and it can be controlled by RC2000a together with 2 main motors. But, as I said, the problem is choosing a correct motorised mounting on which the dish can be installed.
Yes I saw that Raven system linked above. It is sold by a very serious dealer. I know him and I bought many devices from that dealer in the past. But unfortunately no chance to skew the LNB, and travel range seems not so big with a polarmount. I'm looking to a system having 160 or 180 degrees of azimuth range. What do you think? Thanks.

Then buy the 1184 with the Viking enhancements.

Which Viking enhancement?
I saw a professional 2-axis mount in Viking website, but it is a massive and so heavy mount (around 150kg) that can not be installed on the roof. It seems a floor installation mount. Or am I missing something?
Also, anyone tested Raven full system mentioned above? What about azimuth range? And which performance in polarity skewing? Someone suggests that using such system skewing is not needed, but I'm not sure and it sounds a little bit strange to me. Any opinion and advice is appreciated. Thanks.

You have been asking for a professional system, the Viking designs appear to be just what you are after.

You could opt for the 'very serious dealer' and a ball park figure that may not be far off the former.

Yes I asked for a professional system, but I did not know that motor was so expensive and so massively built. My mistake, sorry. Maybe it would be better to say that I'm looking for professional specs but in prosumer devices.
Yes the solution from "the serious dealer" is interesting.

Ohh, it seems very very interesting! Who is the original builder? I'm absolutely not able to build one on myself, but I would like to speak with the manufacturer.

What about these motorized system?
It is not a real AZ/EL one but it seems good. However, I do not understand what is maximum azimuth travel range. Anyone tested this? Any advice?
I'm stuck between this system and Big Polar mentioned above.
Thanks.

Yes I just called them, but they were not so clear. It seems that travel range would be around +/-50 or 60 degrees (around 120 degrees in total), but they seemed a little bit doubtful to me.
Anyone tested this inclined orbit system? Thanks.

Did you ask for a specification sheet/pdf ?

One would think they were on the ball, being the supplier/manufacturer of the product.

Is 120 degrees of travel something you might be happy with or is there more to be had from your arc ?

If you have such PDF datasheet it would be very useful. As I know, this is a good dealer, but no complete specs are available in the web site, having specs would be better.
Well, I believe that from my location I can receive a larger arc than 120 degrees.
I learned about Big Polar, and I'm stuck between these 2 motors. I had all information about Big Polar, now I'm looking for all specs of this Primesat system and possibly someone that made tests with it. Thanks.

You called them, ask for a specification that can be printed out.

Spiff has had words with the same dealer over a replacement mounting point for his coastal install, he should have contact detail of the top dog after the delivery went pear-shaped.
